Beware if you buy a phone from 3

They do not insure your phone.

I am a 3 customer for over two years now an I have to say I am really happy with the service but I have one BIG problem. I have a very expensive Nokia N95 which I got through a 3 upgrade. The problem that I have is that when I asked for insurance on my phone I was told that you do not do phone insurance and that I should add it on to my house insurance. Well I do not have house content insurance. I have been with another phone network and they do offer phone insurance and they add it on to your bill each month which is handy.

The part I can`t understand is that If bought the phone through a 3 retailer like the car phone warehouse they would have done it for me but because I bought my phone from 3 directly over the phone they won`t entertain me. A friend of mine has just pruchased a Nokia N73 about three weeks ago from 3 after I advised him that they are a good company to be with and he had the same problem as me couldn`t get phone insurance. Now his 4 year old kid got his hands on the phone an dropped it into a basin of water and a perfectly good N73 is a paper weight. He called 3 and the reponse that he got was that they would replace his N73 with a sub standard device for the price of €50.....still waiting to see what this will be.

I think this is a joke. Can anyone tell me if there is a third party that does phone insurance.

    Thanks in advance. B

I believe eagle star have a phone cover department. As pointed out many, many times on this forum, 3 over sub standard CC. You get what you pay for.

When an insurance company makes it worth their while, they will pick up on it. However they're not legally tied up to protecting your goods, so they're not doing anything wrong.

Not being smart, but if you have a device like an N73, no way should a child be allowed near it!

that deal is he gets the same handset and tell him not to let them lie to him and make him take a lesser phone.

also, let him know that taking that deal will extend his contract back to 12 months

3 dont insure phones because they will replace your phone if you break it for what ever reason if you pay €50. It happened me about 6 months ago and I got a new phone shipped to my door within a week. Its a much better idea than paying out on insurance every month that you may never use!

You must have had a much cheaper handset. You try and get a replacement N95 or N73 and 3 will tell you that you need to pay the FULL price for it so when you have an expensive phone its very much worth while.

Twas a k800i. Unless they have changed the terms and conditions then it says they will replace the phone with the same model. Were they out of stock and offering you a replacement handset instead?

If anyone has an Ulster Bank U-First account you can get free phone insurance as part of their perks - there is an excess of €50 but still worth it IMO. I had to use it recently and they were very good - my K750i was water damaged they replaced it with a K610i which (other than the LED flash and light) has a much better spec.

That is great news! I can ditch the BB contract but use a PAYG SIM in the datamodem instead.......let's hope it is true.

3 actually doing something to attract the public. It sounds odd but about time.
