No 80GB in Europe. 40GB new, or maybe a second hand 60GB if you're very lucky. Have a look around teh usual suspects, HMV, Virgin, Gamestop, XTravision

You can install your own 2.5" HDD so tbh it won't make too much of a difference if you pick one up from Komplett or something and install it...

But it makes a big difference to the backwards compatibility as the 40GB has none. At least the 60 & 80 GB have software emulation.

I didn't think the 80GB had backwards compatibility...

Anyway, even the 40GB has software emulation. The issue is that PS2 software requires the PS2 chip. Thats why PS1 games work on the 40GB as well as the others. The chip is what was left out.

40GB has none as per below.

No future models of the ps3 will have BC.Sony felt that there was too much emphasis on it.They want people to start buying ps3 games and forget about the ps2.And another thing, blu-rays recent victory gotta be good for ps3 game prices

That link just says it doesn't have BC with the PS2, it doesn't mention the PS1 titles.

Hmm, it also mentions that the 80GB is BC, but with some issues.
