A tough first innings for Ireland, winning the toss, electing to bat and posting 107 all out in 47.4 overs. Carrying her bat, and indeed the team, was Cecelia Joyce with 43 not out.

A serious bowling performance is needed, with tight lines and accuracy the main requirements. A place in the World Cup finals is at stake - Go Ireland!!!

Sadly it was not to be, with South Africa scoring the 108 runs needed in 27.4 overs, for the loss of 3 wickets.

Isobel Joyce was again the pick of the bowlers with 2-21 off 6.4 overs, while Ciara Metcalfe took the other wicket.

A poor result, but Ireland simply failed to score enough runs in the first innings, leaving the bowlers nothing to bowl at.

So no place in the World Cup for Ireland's women. However, their ODI status is assured, allowing them to get better matches over the next few years and giving them more practice against the best in the world.
