    Link here.
    Compact, robust design.

    - Worldwide input voltage, great for travel.

    - 1000mA versus 500mA on a standard PC USB port, hence some devices may charge faster with this.

That's genius!! However, will it work with stuff that has propreiatry connections? I.e. my mp3 player wont recharge when connected to my ps3, only my pc..

Many onboards USBs will not be outputting enough power.

You can have 2 power supplies at 9V, but one could be 500mA and the other 1000mA. Connect a something that draws 900mA
and it will either not work on the 500mA or it will overheat it.

It is always safe to get a higher power supply, the volts should be the same. e.g. you could have a 20" laptop and a mini one, both using 19V supplies. The larger power supply is fine in the small one, no risk of it burning the laptop out or anything.

With this 1000mA you could actually get a hub and put it in, and then charge 2 500mA devices.

Sounds like you have a Creative?

Creative made some of their mp3's non-standard in the USB connection so that they could flog off more of their own chargers as you couldn't just use regular USB charger. There is a mod that you can make toa USB cable with a couple of resistors to get it to work, but I cannot find that page right now.

The DX site pics suggest that the charger is actually 1500mA and not 1000mA. I've noticed this with some of their other products where the web specs, pictures and/or packaging don't match up which is a bit odd...

The enlarged pics on the site show 5VDC output 1500mA. But sometimes the pic is a different model which just looks the exact same. I am not sure if the guy claiming that had bought it or just saw the pic.

There was similar confusion in the consumer forum a while ago. Aldi or lidl were selling a high power device, and in another pic the apparently same device was connected to a petrol generator which could not have handled the device they sold, e.g. it the device was maybe 2kW while the generator only supplied 1kW.

Other confusion with power supplies is the wattage. You can have a power supply that uses 5W, but that is not suitable for powering a 5W device. A power supply will use 5W but might only output 3-4W, power is loss in transforming, this is why they heat up, and where the power goes. A 1000W microwave does not output 1000W of microwave energy. The lights, turntable use power, and the magnetron is never 100% efficient. A 1000W microwave might output 800W

Hey guys do ye know if I connect this into a unpowered hub it will supply enough power to power 2 maybe three usb fans?

    Thanks Briman

Good old DealExtreme. Have an order with a bunch of stuff from them in progress at the moment, but I missed this yoke.

Not sure I follow the above - if I use this to power a device that normally takes a 500mA supply is there any risk of doing damage to the device or shortening its battery life?

Depends on the power usage of the fans. It also depends on if the Hubs wiring can handle the current. The current is small enough so it should be well able.

No risk, thats what I was trying to explain before. It supplies 5V, and is capable of up to 1000mA (or maybe 1500mA). This does not mean it outputs 1000mA. Think of your household sockets, they supply 230V and are usually capable of supplying 13A, (13,000mA). A high power kettle will draw 13A. But if you plug in a radio it might only draw 1A. The device draws only what it needs. The problem is if you put a 1000mA device into a supply of only 500mA. It would be like putting 2 kettles on an adaptor and trying to draw 26A from a household plug, the fuse blows, or the trip goes.

The other thing to watch is the volts. Put 10V into a device that device that wants 5V and it is a gonner, put 5V into a 10V device and it just wont work.

The US are 110V. plug a US device in here and it blows. Plug a irish device into the US socket and it just doesnt work, or has low power.

    Ruu, you legend! :D

Got an iPhone from the States yesterday and it came with a USB port, which plugs into a US standard plug connection, so was gonna buy a US - UK converter but this'll do the job nicely!

    Thanks again.

The Creative Zen V is like that. Major, major PIA.
I have read that if you plug the non-Creative charger into a USB hub and then connect your Zen to the hub it may charge depending on the details of the hub.
