Count me in for the parade on Monday.

Do you know if there is a Skyfest fireworks in Dublin this year? Your list shows only one in Cashel.

There will be some fireworks but not many.
    :(

Not going to Cashel to see them anyway.

I'm just digging up this old threat.
So who is going to the parade next Monday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    It's next Monday?

Hmmm, I'll have to see what the story is. Paddy's day just makes me think of not enough going on in the city, and too many drunken louts on the street...

I can do this if it's early. Have to put in a few hours work in the afternoon (two extra holidays were on offer for hours work). Will wait and see what the weather's like

In all the time I've been in Ireland I have so far managed to avoid heading in to see the sillyness in town on Paddys day. But I suppose I should go in to see it once at least and if it means that I get to practice with my new toy camera then that is a good excuse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭mdebets

So, how about doing it like last year.
Meet-up at around 9:30/10:00, go for breakfast and then have some time to shoot the set-up, before the parade starts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,760 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

Methinks we'd have missed most of it by then. Not used to heading in for the parade - what time does it ormally kick off at? What tme do we need to be there to get good vantage points?

Not sure if we convinced Elven about Lightroom though ... we are trying to convert her...

Not currently convinced myself to be honest. I tried. I wanted to like it because it cost less than Photoshop and stuff...but push and shove and I preferred Photoshop. I may change my mind at some point in the future but for now...

You need to play with it ... it is very good for most photographic processing needs ... excepting where you need to work on something local in an image ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

ACDSee Pro is as well and it's roughly half the price and its database is pretty decent, just my head isn't. Plus you can to some extent work on local stuff (although I never used that feature - went straight to PSE for various reasons) I guess a lot depends on what you're used to. I had been very tempetd by Lightroom if it did everything I needed in a way and cost less than half what Photoshop cost. Unfortunately, it just didn't cut it.

I think the issue boils down to "Have I reached the limit of the software I have?". I know I hit some of the limits of Photoshop Elements which is why I bought CS3 when I got the chance but I haven't hit the limits of ACDSee for now.

Alone, Lightroom doesn't do it all. However, it is a brilliant package for what it does.

I find I'm using it more and more, especially when the image needs minimal processing.

Of course, for things like cloning, specific area adjustments, it just can't do it, so you need another application, like Photoshop CS2/3, Elements, GIMP or such. But, for batch adjustments, etc, it's brilliant, and certainly speeds up my processing.

When you just need to crop and adjust white balance or such, Lightroom is brilliant.

As for today, I'm disappointed I didn't get out to see anything ... damn jetlag.

Well I used the Nifty Fifty yesterday for most of my shots and tbh it was too slow on the autofocus, missed quite a few really good shots because of it coupled with my DoF fetish and having the lens wide open :)

Excellent captures there nilhg & sasar. stcstc love that biker shot, what an expression!
