Price of Apple TV

I was looking at the Apple TV and I've noticed that it's been reduced to $229 on Apple.com, however they are still charging 299e on Apple Ireland.

Normally, they translate prices on a one to one basis, which takes into account the VAT and increased cost of doing business in the UK and Ireland, however, charging this much more is a bit unfair

    Any opinions?

I'm not holding my breath but I reckon they're probably waiting until their movie rental service is available over here before giving us the price cut. Even at 230 it's still way over-priced imo.

If VAT and the cost of doing business here accounted for that much, we'd all be unemployed! You forgot the "Europe Tax" which applies to everything from Levis to DVDs, in other words, charge a lot more because you can and the EU will actually help you rip the consumer by cracking down on anyone 'infringing on your trademark' by importing in parallel. Rant over!

I don't mind the one to one translation due to additional costs / vat here, however, the unit was reduced from $299 to $229 in the US and it hasn't been reduced here

At $229 they are subsidising the cost on the basis of movie rentals, apparently the they are selling it at almost cost (damn rumor sites).

IMO I cant see how its over-priced ? .. jeeze you can even run full blown osx on it if you really want to, its a sweet little box !

Although I imagine we will get it at €229.. i still would.

Anything Apple always seems more expensive over here. I bought my ATV in America, and usually I'd buy anything else when I'm in Russia.

You should, because VAT and costs don't come anywhere close to justifying $1=€1, we are being royally ripped off pure and simple. Apple aren't alone in this by any means, but it has to be said, they are one of the worst offenders. There's not one of us here who wouldn't drool at the prospect of legally being able to buy Apple gear at US prices+costs+VAT. We're now paying US prices+costs+VAT+massive_extra_profit_margin

299 or 229 does not make a whole pile of difference, my father in law picked one up and he is extremely disappointed with it, says it is over hyped and just a glorified external drive
