I don't know anything about laptops so I'm just looking for assurance that I got a good machine.

    It's a Sony Vaio FZ21M.

    The spec is like so:

    Spec

    Paid £699 stg for it.

    So, what do ye think?

Good spec. Graphics card isn't great but if you don't plan on gaming much then there's no need for anything better. Seems to be a decent enough price as well for a sony.

Under a grand for a laptop with blu-ray is a fantastic price. Doubly so for a Sony, and the FZ isn't their bottom end laptop either.

Specs are good and the BD is a clincher, value-wise I'd say you did great, enjoy.

Seems a bit of a waste to get a Blu-Ray laptop with a 1200x800 res screen.

True but you could hook it up to your tv. Saves you having to buy a bluray player.

90% of people I know with HD TVs only have 720p anyway. So you could say they're all a waste too.

A full 1080 (or 16:10 equivalent....1920x1200 or whatever it is) screen on a 15" would cost a fortune anyhow.

Great machine for the price, especially considering it's a Sony. Great processor, plenty of ram, big hard drive, very decent video card (about same as 8600GS)...and blu-ray. In fact, the more I think about it, that's a stellar bargain.

Spec wise, it depends what you want it for, I was debating on getting one similar to yours with a BluRay drive, but in the end it was too much of a compromise for an emerging disk format.

I got a Sony VAIO SZ770NC instead, with the deciding factor being the T9300 cpu

Thats a hell of a deal. I'm about to head into town with 1600 for a laptop but looking at the specs on your machine and what i can get for my money here im thinking twice.

In the Sony Centre at St.Stephens Green they have some SZ6's which are roughly 1800euro, but they are relatively low spec compared to what you can get in the US.

If you're looking for more of a bargain, try a Dell XPS M1330 from their outlet stores

Thanks everybody, that's great. I ordered mine on Amazon. I went for BluRay coz i heard Toshiba lost the battle of the HD formats??

Also, screen size is important to me as it's for entertainment mainly.

Using it now, it plays Youtube videos fine over wireless so that's good.
