Stuck in a rut with my career

hey guys, well I'm nearly at the end of my tethers and it's looking like I need advice big-time so this is a start cause I can't deal with it alone no more.
I got an arts degree after school and spent three years in the industry I was qualified in, doing quite well at it and getting great experience, making contacts, etc. Then it stopped fitting me and I tried to get into a related field in the same sector which would suit me more, did a great post grad course, got my first class hons, but stupidly did no research beforehand on job opportunities in this area and discovered that there are absolutely feck all job opportunities/vacancies ever and after a year and a half of trying, trying and trying I have realised that I need to change jobs/career. It's bloody daunting, I'm 26 and really don't want to start a new degree all over again.

I'm now trying to get into the world of sub-editing and journalism which I had touched on years ago and have a very good interest and I'm currently learning the technical skills I need for it to better my chances but I'm terrified that the same thing will happen to me again. I'm getting the impression that it's a very competitive industry and starting out at 26 might leave me disadvantaged?

I'd love to hear from people who have had similar problem and how they worked through it cause I can't seem to focus/have faith anymore.

    Thanks

I dont know much about journalism but have you ever thought about accounting, they take on people that dont have accounting/business degrees and they train you while your getting paid too. To be fair you will prob take a large pay cut for a couple of years but it would work out in the end. Or you can take a job in the public sector as those jobs tend to have an automatic pay increase if you have a masters degree (in anything as far as im aware).
