Hi just thinking of going on a city break with my wife but what something different, i.e. not Europe or the US

I was thinking of HK or Dubai.

Question about HK is how long would be the 'right' amount of time to spend there.

The ideal itenirary would be to relax in a nice hotel and just wander around the city without any mad dash to various 'must see' tourist sights or try to complete a hectic shopping list.

With the lenght of the flight how much time would one need to stay in HK without being wrecked whne you get there and still wrecked by the time you have to leave.

I know Dubai is much closer but again how long would be enought time to spend there.

Are ther any other good destination outide Europe or teh US for a city break ?

Sorry for such opened ended, vague questions.

Dubai makes a great city break alright, and the relatively short flight makes it do-able for any length of break longer than 3-4 days. Only thing is there's still a LOT of building work going on around the beach area.

If distance wasn't a huge issue, I loved Singapore! Great city to wander around, nice food and very safe. There's lots to do between the excellent shopping, beachy/island area (can't remember the name of the area, for shame!) and the coolest zoo I've ever been to. I think a week would be sufficient if time was limited.

Another vote for Dubai as suitable for a long weekend.

You can hit the beach in the morning and then spend the afternoon
hitting the shops or doing a spot of dune-bashing.

Here's a quick list of the top ten things to do in Dubai.
I really enjoyed the desert safari and dinner in the Burj al Arab.

I find the secret to an enjoyable city break is to have a direct flight.
Other options I've enjoyed for long weekends in the past are Vegas, San
    Francisco and Orlando.

    thanks,

seeing as Aer Lingus no longer go to Dubai it is no longer a non stop destination.
Abu Dhabi is however with Etihad.

Any know anything about Abu Dhabi as a destination ?
