Apparantly me da was talking to a gardai who said that to do scenes of crime you dont have to be a generic gardai first that they hire people directly in.

now knowing my dad this is the almalgamation of 2 different statements but i wondered if anyone knew exactly the process for the gardai scenes of crime officer recriutiment ?

are they scientifically trained gardai or are they people with a scientific background who are just hired ?

Any SOCOs I have met are gardai. These are based in district HQs. The Technical Bureau I am not so sure. The labs do have civilian scientists.

I know that LIT was doing a course for that sort of thing(crime scene analysts, technical bureau stuff!:o) and you could go in to GS without becoming a Garda..Could be wrong! It was on nationwide there last year..
