I am not a UCD student but i have friends who are in UCD and they are very harsh on the attitude of the trinity students to them. I am an open minded person but have the good cause to feel the way they do or are they over reacting.

As if it's not reciprocated anyway!
I went to a talk by Bill Bryson in UCD last year and up on the walls were tons of posters proclaiming a talk on 'Why We Hate Trinity' or something to that effect. I think it's sad, since there are plenty of people in both colleges who are idiots and also plenty who contain the milk of human kindness. To lump them together is just silliness.

    Group hug!

P.S- If it makes you feel any better, I originally wanted to do veterinary science in UCD. Just because we end up in trinity doesn't mean that's what we signed up for. I suspect the same is true in UCD, but it doesn't really matter which college is 'bigger' or 'older'. I like TCD because it's central in the city, it's convenient to get to and has the course I wanted to do.

some people in UCD seem to put a hell of a lot of work into disliking trinity :) for instance putting UCD ents posters in trinity, to their obsession with rushing in on med day etc. Doesn't bother me, just seems like too much work!

that's nothing new, I heard that there was rivalry between Trinity and DIT as well. Students of both colleges should be very glad that there's a world class uni in the center and in the south, and that they got their college places. They just can't realise the opportunity they have compared to students in other countries.

Im am a UCD student. I was in trinity about two weeks ago looking for a book to further my studies where the people there were nothing short of pure ignorant to me just because I study at UCD. Yous should be ashamed of yourselves and grow up. That is just childish.

Why, what happened? I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I hope this doesn't make you think badly of the rest of us.

Was it because you were attempting to get access to a library you don't have rights to access? i'm sure some people would be pure ignorant with me if i walked into UCD library looking to get in. madness that.

some people in ucd have an inferiority complex about the rivalry between ucd and tcd. i don't think many people in tcd look down their noses at ucd but if they thought ucd was a better uni they probably would have went there tbh....

Don't you mean arrogant and not ignorant?

Well it is UCD,D after all :) - most of my friends go there and they lament that name change all the time.

But aside from some friendly/joking banter I've never seen anyone make anything of the supposed TCD v. UCD rivalry.

    I think you are childish...

Why should we be ashamed of ourselves? Why should I be ashamed of the actions of a fellow Trinity student? I'm not responsible for the actions of others, and you can't say, "well, one/some Trinity student/s treated me bad and therefore all of you ought to be ashamed of yourselves", it's a ridiculous over-generalisation. Do you really think the entire student body has it in for UCD students? Furthermore, without knowing the particulars of your experience, is it not possible and misinterpreting some playful inter-college rivalry as malevolence?

From my experience (as a Trinity student) it's other colleges who have an attitude with us. Apart from maybe DIT, who have an attitude with everyone.

Trinity people tend to be oblivious to the trivial rivalry.

Also, the original poster states he's "not a ucd student" but in his other thread says "we (UCD) will kick your ass at cricket!".

    Bad troll is bad mk?

The 'rivalry' seems to be limited to those in Dub colleges- my brothers went to UCG and UCC and nothing was ever made of any inter college rivalry.

UCG is the biggest party college in the country though, my money's on it.

Same with me when I did the soccer colours so many years ago. Thats more than to local rivalry over bragging rights I'd say. We were the first to beat UCD in years! The night in the Palace was class

sure it's all a bit of fun. The debating colours in trinity in fresher's week was brilliant, the UCD students stole the show completely, but whenever trinity students go out to UCD they get a much harder time of it... Next Tuesday in Theatre L in UCD is the next colours, some funny trinners people and hilarious LnH folks if anyone is interested, but as an example two years ago at the show human faeces were thrown at some Trinity students, they now have security check everybody's bag for stuff they could throw :D

its college rivalry, i went to neither, i slag my brother for going to one, my sister for applying for the other, and I'm the one with a degree and a good job, as good as a grad from either.
Its a bit of fun, there is rivalry between countys and towns, this is the same, but i think these two get the worst stick cause of some of the "posher" (read ruder and holier than thou) students who people seem to remember best (suprisingly).
