    hi

have a mobile (087 prefix) and i am currently with meteor. i use the AFT app on my SE 810i.

when my contract is up i am thinking of porting to O2 mainly as their webtext allows text to anywhere and this will come in handy when texting my mates in UK, France & Australia.

how reliable is O2's webtext or website for that matter. i have heard people complain that is can be down a lot. is this true? are they any worse than vodafone or meteor?

    replies welcome!

    thanks - laoisfan

I've found the O2 site to be slowish at times, but seldom completely down. The web-text facility works very well and, as you say, the real advantage is that you can send free texts (250 per month) to any mobile on any network anywhere in the world. It can, of course, only be used by O2 customers.
    Hope this Helps.

Just a word of warning when texting Australia via O2's international webtext (including through AFT). The message will be received in Aus, but will be received from your number in this format 003538xxxx.... When the person in Aus hits reply, types their message and hits "send", it will fail because it is trying to respond to 003538xxx, but Australias dialling code for international numbers is 0011, so for Ireland is 00113538xxxx.

This is a problem I have had in any case. Works great for UK or any other country that has normal international dialling codes of 0044 for example.

The way around this is to tell your mates in Aus not to hit reply, but to send a new message. It's a pain and they will never remember!

I have contacted O2 about this problem to see if text messages can come from webtext in a +353 format (which will work from an Aus mobile), but apparently that is too much of a system upgrade. There was also another thread about this issue.

I would agree with this. They used to be shockingly poor at keeping their site up and running. Their upgrade to the current version of O2.ie will probably go down in Irish internet history as one of the most poorly conceived and executed upgrades ever. The site was up and down for about 3 months
