Hey just wondering does anyone watch this series called Monk. It stars Tony Shaloub As Adrian Monk a detective with Obsessive Compulsive tendencies who was taken off the police force after the Murder of his wife Trudy..now in its sixth series.

Yep, I'm a fan. Haven't watched the latest US instalment but other than that I've seen the lot. Shaloub is really superb in the role - he's been nominated for an Emmy for every season of the show so far and one three times (a record I think). He can get comic timing down perfectly but can also break your heart with some performances (e.g. S3's "Mr. Monk and the Kid" and many of his memories of Trudy). Phenomenal.

He's also assisted by a decent support cast - the world-weary Stottlemeyer is played by Ted Levine. He really brings across the friendship he feels for Monk balanced against being a capable police officer. Disher's character, a sort of dumb side kick, can vary - sometimes he's a bit too thick although lately they've struck the balance between childishness and effectiveness quite well.
Of the two assistants, I prefer Natalie (think she cares more) but both actresses are good.

Plots themselves can vary - sometimes the answer to the crimes he investigates are screamingly obvious, other times too much out of left field. However in general they're fairly satisfactory and often just an excuse to show Monk's latest phobia/quirk.

Good show and can I say one more time just how damn good Shaloub is?

Shaloub is very good, but in terms of detective style Monk is very much a modern incarnation of Hercule Poirot.

Great show, Tony Shaloub is brilliant in the main role. It really needs to be given a slot on one of the proper Irish or British channels.

RTE used to show it up to season 5 but then they stopped it.Havent seen any of season 6 though when it comes out on DVD Im definitly getting it.
BBC also show it sometimes though there aren't really set times. The last one I saw was Mr Monk Takes His Medicine about 4 weeks ago so they might be starting season 5 round about now.

I als prefer Natalie as shes more respectful(always calls him Mr. Monk) Is more caring and isnt always swooning over different guys(On many occasions Sharona fancied men who turned out to be the baddies)
My Favourite episode is Either Mr Monk and The Garbage Strike (classic appearence by Alice Cooper) or Mr Monk and the Kid(it shows what a human Monk is even though all of his phobias make him seem otherwise)

Yeah I used to catch it sometimes on BBC and RTE at really obscure times, but as you said they didn't seem to be on a set schedules. I haven't seen many episodes (think the 1st series is the only one I've seen in it's entirety) but my favoutire one was Mr. Monk vs. The Cobra. The ending was quite touching where he
was buried alive and had a vision of his wife

yeah I nearly cried at that part...
Also Randy is my favorite character...
The show has a good way of turning sentimental or emotional moments into comedy ones for example in Mr Monk Meets His Dad(S5) Where
He and his dad go trucking and they go to a resturant.Monk says "Its touching" implying that he thought that after so many years they were family again.Instead he was talking about his food...
