Looking for an acoustic

I've been browsing for an acoustic the past while.

    These ones caught my eye.

    The Crafter D8-Nat

    The Crafter D6-Nat
    http://www.crafterguitars.com/gallery_acoustic/d_6n.php

Also played a Cort AD 870 or 850 can't remember which it was going for about €430-450 I think

I played this Art & Lutherie a few days ago which was nice to play, nice sound out of it.

Then today I played two others in a different shop but they were pretty terrible in comparison, they had dark brown strings on them, different from the other one I played and it might have been just the strings but the sound wasn't right at all, it was just a very dull tone. I didn't get prices on any of the A&L guitars.

Anyway does anybody have anything to chip in with regard to the Crafter or Cort guitars? I'm looking for a guitar that can do a nice range of tones from bright and punchy to deep and mellow. €600 would be my sensible limit. And I don't want any EQ system or anything like that wouldn't use that.

    Cheers

Have you tried out any Tanglewoods. I think there are a few without any electronics. I love the sound off them personally.

Yeah I'll have to check them out as well. Cheers

Scratch that comment about the two Art and Lutherie guitars being terrible, played them again today, they're not that bad especially as they're reduced to €199, just not what I'm looking for.

€600 would get you a Simon and Patrick. Problem solved. ;) Fabulous guitars and by far and away the best value for money in an acoustic guitar I've ever found. My Simon and Patrick, bought for €550, discounted from €600, plays and sounds like a guitar that costs three times that. It's an incredible instrument.

I'm a fan of the Cort guitars, I've an Earth 70 and its a great guitar for the price. I also recommend the Epi masterbilt acoustics.

    Which model was that?

Mine's the plainish spruce top dreadnought. Don't know the exact model.

Ibanez AEL40se like the one below is what I use. Absolutely class acoustic imo. Sounds pretty sweet wired up too (I was playing through a rather pricey AER acoustic amp though) I think I paid €429 for mine, although not sure.
Big body, solid spruce top, huge clear sound, lovely to play even up around the dusty end.
Only problem I had is my sweaty mits have taken the gold finish off the low e tuner, as I swap between normal and drop-d quite a lot.

Was it this one? Played it today, sweet sound out of it, very tempted to take the plunge on that. Plus it's been reduced to around the €550 mark, I don't need electronics though but I might be tempted just in case I need them in the future.

    Martin DX1

Was also playing the Martin DX1 and DX1K (Koa), sweet guitars nice natural feel no lacquer or anything, neck was really nice. Also played another Art and Lutherie, the tone is so deep tis unreal. And tried out a Garrison as well nice sound out of it too, this is going to be a very tough decision...

Mine's like that without the cutaway or electronics, and I think it represents better value for money as a result. That looks very nice though, and it's a good price.

Yeah I'd definitely prefer to have no electronics as you say a guitar for say €500 with electronics won't be the same value for money as one without them, generally speaking anyway.

No worries. On the whole, I would say you definitely can't go wrong with a Simon and Patrick anyway. Every one I've played has punched way, way above its weight.

Try any one of these Seagulls.

With the exchange rate being at an all time high against the dollar you can buy one of these and pay the VAT and still be ahead of the game.

The only issue is that acoustics are a little different from electric guitars. Personally I've no problem buying electric instruments online, and have done so several times in the past, but an acoustic, I'd have to play. It just wouldn't be right in my mind to get a guitar I'd never grubbied up with my own hands, just not cool. All well and good for those that do it, assuming it works out, but every individual acoustic has so much variation in character to the next one that I'd really want to play the guitar before I handed over so much as a shekel.

If your still in the market I'd recommend a takamine gs330s, bought one about 2 years ago and still havent played anything to match it. The bass notes fill the room with a deep woody tone that helps bring out the ringing quality of the treble notes.

Its a beauty and is said to be alot better sounding then the higher end models (Its true trust me). Just look at a picture and you will want one, pure elegance.

I went guitar shopping with a friend yesterday and I was really impressed with the Tanglewood he bought E525 and solid top back and sides. I've got a handmade Bourgieos Custom Slope D that cost E4000 so it takes a bit to impress me.
