Anybody know where I can get a cheap wedding cake? Had a look at some websites - professional cakes can cost up to €650 !! absolutely crazy

Also, do you get the marriage cert on the day in the church? Or what do you get in church, when you both give signatures? I need ours ASAP, the fiancee is foreign and need to get her Irish VISA sorted in 2 days as we head off on honeymoon.

Your mad - its a cake !! How can you justify spending €600 !

Which probably wont get eaten anyway...

got a number of a limousine company from friend, who used them for a 21st - cost them €250. Rang company and they quoted €450 for wedding.

Once the word wedding is mentioned for anything the price increases rapidly.

And its insane people who would pay these prices. I dont blame the company - if people are mad enough to pay it then they'll charge it - this is just business !!

Nope, you have to send it off for it - there was a recent thread about it. You don't get any certificate in the church. I presume the church then send it on to the registry office.

I don't know if a registry office would be able to provide a copy so soon after the wedding. If I were you, I'd ring one up and ask pronto.

I had a look at the M&S cakes - some look quite nice and tasty!

It says there though that you are supposed to pick up the cake 7 days before the wedding??
We advise you to pick up your cake seven days before your wedding.

    Does that seem right??

I had the same problem re my husband and the visa thing. Basically you need to get the cert in the registrar of births deaths and marriages it costs about €15 I think. Anyway we had to tell them to push it through urgently aswell. we got married on the Fri and they had it ready for us on the Mon. We got married in Galway city tho and the registrar is in Galway city too. It might take longer if you're getting married in a more rurla location. Ring the registrar that you already applied to and ask them. They'll tell you exactly how long it will take in their office. If its gona be a major problem just ring immigration and explain they will tell you who you need to get a letter off to get your wife back into the country!! We went on a three week honeymoon and did the immigration registration in Dublin when we came back. They're not strict about it being done straight away. Be ready for some major waits in the immigration office tho. Pain in the ass. Your only necessity is to get something from the registrar of b d and m that you can use to get your wife back through emigration in Dub airport. Good luck.

found out about the M&S cakes a bit more. In Ireland you can only get the fruit cake ones - if you go to the north, they have the other versions.

there is also a company called cakebox.ie - they sell plain wedding cakes quite cheaply and you can then decorate them yourself.

Tescos also do wedding cakes. At least they do in the UK anyway, they call them celebration cakes. You just go to the cake section and buy the different tiers in different sizes. You can buy the stands in M&S.

    Thanks for the replies.

Cookiequeen - we have meeting with registrar so will ask what we need. were gettin married in Dublin so should be able to get it sorted pretty quick. We know all about the long immigration waits !!!!

Had a look in M&S - were gonna get ours there. Cost about €130 for three tier cake with stands. Can decorate it ourselves then... Beats the hell out of €600 !!!
