    Hey all,

I traveling through Newark next month on route to Vegas from dublin, the only thing is that i only have 1hr 25min connection time in there.

I have never been to the state so i have no idea how long its supposed to take to go through, i emailed the aitline and they said that it should be enough time to collecet my bags and get on the connecting flight which frankly seems very tight.

Has anyone been to Newark before? is it big? lenght of time in security?

any info will be great thanks.

Flown in and out of EWR a few times. Will you have to clear immigration in the US or can you do it in DUB (Or can you only do that in Shannon?). Anyway, If you have to go immigration in EWR then I would say you have no chance of making the flight in 1hr 25.

Do you know what terminal your Dublin flight arrives to and what terminal the Vegas flight leaves from?
There is a monorail between terminal at Newark and it does take a bit of time to get from A to B to C to D.

If you go through pre-flight Immigration Inspection at Dublin, which probably will, and if your bags are being checked through to Vegas, then when you get to Newark this is what will happen

    1. No need to Q at immigration
    2. Collect your bags,
    3. Go through customs, which is usually just a case of handing the customs man the white form you filled out at Immigration in Dublin
    4. Drop your bags off at another ‘transfer belt’, usually just outside the customs hall
    5. Make your way to your Vegas departure
    6. You will go through another security check at your Vegas departure area

All that in 1hr 25 mins is very very tight

I travel through Newark very frequently (Continental) - I assume that you are flying with Continental - If this is the case then you are probably flying on to LV with Continental. - If you are, then you should make it if all flights depart / arrive on time.

I have missed many flights in Newark (they LOVE me over there :D:D). I can give you some tips if you confirm your airline(s).

From a quick look at Newark's website it looks like the Dublin flights arrive at Terminal C (this is unlikely to change as in most airports they have one terminal dedicated to internationals arrivals so they can have all their immigration facilities in one place) and the LV flights leave from terminal C so you are at an advantage staright away.

Your sucess will depend on the seep you get your bags and whethere or not you have to go throught another security check at the LV departure location.

Have your white form ready to hand to the customs man.

Usually on trans-atlantic flight they show you a video about customs and onward travel close to the end of teh flight, pay good attention to it, know where you are going.

Google a terminal map of newark and try to get some sort of conecept of where the possible departure gates are in relation to your arrival gate.

i know these are all common sense but it might help.

    Zeidth,

Assuming all goes as it normally doeswith Continental: -

When you check in at the Continental desk (I presume you are departing ex. Dublin) you will get your boarding pass for the Dublin - Newark leg and you will also get your boarding pass for the Newark - Las Vegas leg.

You will also be presented with 2 forms - a Visa Waiver and a customs declaration form - Visa waiver is green / custom declaration is white.

You complete both forms before entering the US Immigration section in Dublin Airport.

You give both to the immigration officer - assuming he has no issues with the information he will stamp the customs form and return it to you - Put it somewhere safe and accessible - (in your passport ?). You will require it in Newark.

On arrival in Newark you will be ushered pass immigration because you have already cleared immigration (in Dublin) and will be brought to the baggage collection area. Here's where you could have a delay - try not to bring too much luggage.

When you collect you bags you go through customs (usually a small delay here due to the inevitable queue) - here you present your stamped customs (white) form. DON'T bring any food with you - if you are stopped for a search they are usually fairly quick - if you have food with you they can get sticky.

When you leave the customs area you place you luugage on a transfer belt (just outside the customs area - you won't miss it if you are looking for it) - then you head to your departure gate.

Have your boarding passes checked by the gate agent (sometimes they issue new passes with a new seat assignment).

Assuming you arrive on time and don't get bogged down in the baggage section you will lots of time - you might even get a quick pint in :).

    Most important note: -

I have missed MANY flights in Newark due to the late arrival of the Dub flight.

Continental have ALWAYS placed me out on a later flight (same day). Rememeber they have an idea of where you are during your flight etc. i.e. they known wen you have arrived in Newark - they will known when your baggage has reached the Newark flight etc. So they can in some respect track you and can if nescessary hold the flight for a few mins but only if they deem it nescessary.

To cut a long tip line short - I wouldn't worry about it at all - just go and enjoy yourself and brings lots of money for Vegas.
