Im in Tallaght Dub 24 here and the NTL connection is still down.

Anyone else having trouble still ?

Spent like 45 min on hold to tech support and when i did get through it
was just to a CS person who couldnt tell me anything except that the broadband
support lines had been extremely busy since Lunchtime...

Posting this from a fiend and i hope its sorted out soon :)

I've been having it on and off for the last two weeks. D.15. I think they are resetting connections if they are idle. I usually leave mine connected as Its so hard to get a connection at peak. I have to reset the modem, the router and sometimes restart the laptop when it happens. A real pain.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,020 ✭✭✭mang87

Literally 20 minutes ago my connection went down, and when it came back up I couldn't access sites like google, youtube, unreal.ie, and World of Warcraft won't connect. I can access here and another forum I post at but that seems to be it...

Anyone with ntl experiencing the same thing?

Also boards.ie is not loading properly.

Internet is back to normal now, but not working to full capacity. Only getting half my usual speed. Maybe this fable about NTL upgrading may be true?

    Hi

I don't think is because of that, in my case I work from home so my connection is active, I think they must be having some other problems.

Today at 4:20 pm same problem again, gone for about 10 min.

Mine also drops randomly when I'm using it. So maybe its not that either.

Yeah mine dropped last night at about 12 or 1 last night. I did have Ventillo functioning Ok though which was strange as none of my other web apps would work.

wondering what would be a good app to track the disconnects?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,969 ✭✭✭christophicus

Well I assume you can see it in the Modem on the log, but I am not certain how to decifer the log.

It's being a right pain today and last night. The connection drops intermittently and the television signal loses itself every now and again :(

That sucks, I only got home about 50 mins ago, but everything looks good to me atm, I am getting full speed ( about 680 KB) down from rapidshare.

So when I'm looking at the upstream/downstream signal strengths I can grab a log file too?

Well there is a log you can look at, I'm not too sure if you can actually download it to your PC.

Yeah looks like it went a while ago.

NTL`s customer service is deffinitely worst service Ive ever seen in my life... I didnt think than support can be so bad...
    Im sick of this :(
And all the time they are saying that they will fix it now. :/

Content ratio for NTL should be 24:1, once Ive heard from agent that here in Tyrrelstown, D15 curently there is over 200 users on one connection instead of 24.
Ive switched from eircom in July, and at the begging everything was almost fine, broadband was working 10-12 hours daily but it was fine - then quality of the connection gets really bad - during the day it was fine, but then in the evening ping to my gateway was around 300 - Im using my connection (or rather I was using) to voip and online gaming and for both of them quality of connection is crucial - so with 300ms ping to my gateway I thought that it cant get worse... but as you can see from ping status - actually is even worse.
Now I`m not even able to browse web properly.

I cannot browse boards.ie or adverts.ie or a host of others from home.

Not remotely happy. Going to cancel tv and broadband if its not fixed pronto.

I suspect the issue i with their transparent caches or summat.

What area are you in? I'm in Dub 24 and can browse them ok, I

I wonder if other people in your area have the same problem, if they don't might be something to do with you modem, router or computer.

    Hi Nava,

It was mentioned already above earlier in the thread that others have same issue.

I bypassed all my kit and used modem directly.

I can browse boards using eircom using same pcs, just not using upc. Tried mtu changes, made no difference.

Its definitely upc's issue. I am already in the process of pricing alternatives.

I am having intermitting problems with my broadband for the last 8 weeks now. Firstly NTL said they were working on the lines in the area but that has finished a month ago and still the same issue.

I am connected to the modem directly from the laptop. It's possible to surf and view websites normally but when I try to download any sort of file the download status pauses after about 5% and then nothing, Youtube videos repeatedly stop every few seconds and Skype keeps dropping the connection during calls. I have tested 3 other laptops on the same line and still the same problem, the funny thing is when I test these laptops on Eircom and Vodafone, everything works perfectly. I am really puzzled because every time I call NTL they say the line is OK.

Is anyone else having this problem?
