I'm new to the world of photography and have been looking at buying a Nikon D40X slr camera.
    Is this a good buy?
Also would it or any other slr camera's come with a means of hooking up the camera with my PC in order to post pictures online?

    Thanks:)

You really are a newbie, while I use a canon, I'm 99.9% certain there will be a means to hook it up with your pc, after all it is a "digital" slr.
But all in all I think it will cover you for everything you'll want to do with it, you'll even get your pics online:D

You'll get a USB cable to hook the cam up to your PC to download the images. You could also buy a memory card reader if you preferred to download cameras that way. Once you've donwloaded them you can edit them as you like and post online.

I would recommend getting either the Nikon D40 or D60 rather the the D40x. The D40 is the sister camera to the D40x and is cheaper (with some feature differences - it's what I have).

The D60 is the newer D40x (in many people's eyes) and since it has newer technology (anti-dust, active D-lighting etc.) may be a better buy than the D40x.

But for me the D40 is a great compact dSLR that I can carry around everywhere, here are some of my pictures (more in my sig):

Oh and I remember hearing about people asking where the film goes into the dSLR - so you're not the worst :p

Also someone else once kept all their photos on cards and bought new ones as they ran out of space (they literally thought the SD/CF cards were equivalent to film) - poor guy spent a fortune on cards!
