Anyone want to own up?

So, does anyone want to own up to breaking off the left wing mirror on my Bike at HRTA today, and perhaps offer some cash towards the cost of repairs?

Accidents happen and I'm not too annoyed about the damage itself. But not taking responsibilty for breaking it is just annoying.

So, if the person responsible wants to own up, send me a PM please. Your name will not be made public. An apology and some cash towards repairs is all that is needed and there will be no hard feelings. The repair cost is not even that expensive, it's just the principle of it.

I was parked beside your bike when I was there earlier (from about 4-5.30), didnt notice any damage to your mirror when I was leaving though? I did notice that the bike was moved a bit from when I had parked when I arrived, did you move it yourself?

i'm a biker too rabbit (an didn't go near yer bike i didn't ever see a bike there tho there was some gilera thingy :p )and since you donated prizes etc i propose a whip round , screw the principle whoever don it isn't gonna own up so open a pay pal acc and every opne can chip in a couple of euro

I think it's unfortunate that this sort of thing could happen on a day that's supposed to celebrate the community we've built up over the last year :(. If whoever is responsible doesn't come forward to rabbit I'll be more than happy to throw a few quid into a whipround.

The chances of the culprit seeing your post on here and being a member here and then actually owning up to hitting your bike are pretty slim

Yup, but giving them a chance...

Kdouglas, nope I didn't move the bike at all, though when I deactivated the alarm it gave an extra beep which means it had 'sounded' once since being activate. The wing mirror was physically broken off, but someone went to the trouble of try to stick it back on (it kinda rests back in the slot where it broke off. If the bike had been completely knocked over, it would cause this type of damage and explain it being moved a little. I'll have to check for further damage during daylight.

Oh, and rbd, my bike requires an A licence, not a M licence. It's a proper bike. :p:D

Lastly, thank everyone for the offer of a whipround. It doesn't really cost much to repair at all, so I'm not worried about that. It's the lack of responsibility for causing the damage that actually annoys me.

A lot of people without the spine to admit to things yesterday it seems.

    Gatlings head and Crazy's bike.

To those people: Poor show lads. Poor show.

    Gatlings head and Crazy's bike.

    What happened his head?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

Somebody basically didnt invoke the bang rule and Gatling got a cut to the top of his scalp.

Not a serious injury by any stretch of the imagination but certainly avoidable and certainly unwelcome on any playing field (or players head).

How many gears does this proper bike of yours have? :D

It must be difficult to move your gear and AEG around on the bike mate. Are you just putting everything into a rucksack?

Where was Gatling when this happened??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,994 ✭✭✭ambro25

I left @ about 16:15, and the DNA looked alright then (I was parked 2 or 3 cars up from it), although I must confess to not remembering seeing any mirrors on it

Ouch! Happend to me at the old HRTA except it was the medic on my own team who did it blue on blue!

On Sat I had an arguement with siome one who shot me in the face at about 5 feet leaving a nice lump and a red welt. I reckoned he was blind firing he said he could see me clearly but I would of thought if you could see someone you wouldnt shoot them in the face....

Well, the result of the Gatling thing was me doing my "stompy angry dwarf" bit and supplying the bollocking of the day to all assembled. I urged the person to come forward. They didnt. Unfortunate.

This is veering off Crazy's topic so I'll put a pin in it for now.

It has 3 gears. They just aren't manual gears!

I use a military rucksack for carrying my gear around. Plenty of room for two AEG's, a face mask, a bottle of green gas, 4 mags, a first aid kit, bb's, a bottle of water and food.

EDIT: Still no PM's regarding this. I guess the person has made their decision to stay silent (assuming they read boards.ie)

i presume you mean my other half, she was parked near the bike in the space where KD left when she came to collect me, she certainly didnt hit it though, As KD said it had been moved in the space of time he was there and that was before she came to HRTA.,
I understand that may have been just a piss take kinda comment but just to "nip in the bud" anyone who's gonna jump on the bandwagon and start finger pointing "coz shes a girl" and all that, and to be honest shes an above average driver, blokes included.,;)

id say if it was any of the regulars they would have had the decency to own up by now though, it could have been one of the new people who wouldnt give a sh*t and just get out asap. also its not an easy bike to miss in bright red and the damage might have been from someone sitting on it and letting it fall rather than bumping into it., so if anyone noticed anybody at the bike at all then pass it on coz it might not have been rabbit at the time.,

i've several times come out of work to find extra scratches on my car, only light ones mind you, but just shows how inconsiderate people can be.

i've been at the other end of things though, and accidentally reversed into someone else's car, i left my name and number on his windscreen and sorted out the damage for him, it may have cost me a few quid, but i have a clear conscience

Rabbit, give City Spares a ring. There's plenty of DNA's around. They probably have a spare mirror in stock for a few quid. If they don't have one and you still have problems getting one let me know. Being a biker myself I know where to get stuff.

Your bike was parked on the other side of the carpark from where we had parked our car. I remember seing it at lunchtime because I was sitting on the back of the car eating. The mirrors seemed fine then. It must have happened in the afternoon :(

Its a bitch when someone else does damage to your bike.
At least i dropped mine myself so i had a great laugh at myself for that.

Kinda got worried there, seeing as I came in a black Micra (couldn't stay shootin, came to donate), made to park in that space, saw the bike before I got in, drove on behind the van, left the car running as I donated, reversed around and headed off.

    Then I saw
Myself and Stephen from IAS were both parked beside it in the morning and it was grand, it was also grand when I was leaving at about half two.
and I'm sure I came and donated before half two. Besides, Hawkeye was there to see me in and out (chatting to yer man in the van).
If it was me then I'd definitely throw my hands up and say "yeah", but I think taking a wingmirror off a bike would leave some impression, I'd have heard something, or there'd be a mark on the back of my car, something.
Any chance of damage pictures? What do you reckon happened to the mirror?
    Also check your PMs.

EDIT: Just checked the back of my car, it's clear.

well I hope it went down on the left side, I think the can is on the right side on them. At least you didn't have to deal with the sound of splintering fairing. That's the worst.

It's not easy trying to find a flat piece of ground in that car park. Bikes fall over when you try put them up on the stand over uneven ground!! :D I also hate using that car park as the loose gravel is a nightmare on bikes.

EDIT: Just checked the back of my car, it's clear.

It seems the bike was moved a few feet from where I actually parked it. This would indicate that the bike was knocked over on it's left side and the mirror broke off. The bike was then lifted back up (not easy to do as it's 120kg and awkward to lift on gravel). The wing mirror was then but back onto the bike into a slot (hard to explain, but the way it broke left a piece sticking out that could be pushed back into a slot.)

I've done some temp repairs with liquid metal until I get it welded properly, so I can't show pictures of the damage at the moment.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 110 ✭✭Jay TLR

So you probably also have scratches on the engine casing, bar end, and lever. That's horrible man.

You'll find that bikers will try and hide their bikes in a car park where no one can hit it, and if that fails you've no choice but to take a normal space, which you're perfectly entitled to. Problems happen when a car driver turns up and sees a space he could put his car if that pesky bike wasn't in the way. He tries to move it and BAM, it's on the ground. It's happened to me a few times and it's very frustrating. It's pure selfishness by the car driver.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

it annoys me to see bikes taking up a full space when its not necessary, but being a biker aswell id snap i i came back to see someone moved my bike so they could park in.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,659 ✭✭✭CrazyRabbit

I was originally parking down near the first entrance to the field on the patch of ground on front of the gate that leads to the other field. I was asked not to park there since it could block tractors etc coming down the road.

Currently, I have to park in the gravel car park even though I hate it. Little grip, loose stones, muck/sand & no real parking bays.

Regarding damage to the side of the bike, there is no additional damage. When it ends up on it's left side, the lower front fork, handle bar, mirror and foot rest touch the ground...nothing else. They were already scratched from the accident on the N3 Oil Slick.

I got the following reply from CitySpares earlier:
"WE HAVE A RANGE OF MIRRORS TO SUIT APPROX 20 TO 30 EACH. WE ONLY SELL A COMPLETE MASTER CYLINDER SECONDHAND FOR 35EURO WITH THE MIRROR MOUNT IN IT. IF YOU REQUIRE ONLY THE MIRROR MOUNT YOU NEED TO CONTACT BIKEWORLD @ 01 4567234 TA"

Not too bad if I want to replace the whole mirror. Might stick with the welding option though.

Anyway. Looks like the person responsible isn't coming forward or doesn't use boards.ie. So, we can probably close this topic as it's always bordered on off-topic anyhow. Thanks to the Mods for allowing it to remain.
