Analogue problem

    Hi,

All my channels went completely on Tuesday and haven't come back since. I'm still on analogue (renting and unsure of how long I'll stay so wary of ending up with a contract and cancellation fees) and have checked the connections and tried two TVs, just in case it was a problem at my end. I've called NTL/UPC about four times since then. The first two times they said it was work being carried out in my area, the third was more useful and promised to send out a tech, as she didn't think it likely that it would still be gone even if they were working on it. The one today just said I'll have to wait and see...

Is there anything I can do? Likely causes? Am I putting up with this for too long or is this normal? Didn't realise how much I'd miss just being able to turn on the TV.

I guess I should get digital. It's just the contract that puts me off. Can that be transferred to a new tenant? Is the cancellation fee usually a lot?

Plenty of questions but mostly just wondering if there's anything I can do to get my TV back (I'm at the stage where I'm looking thoughtfully at wire coat hangers).

    M.

Ended up with the coat hanger. At least I can sort of watch Where Eagles Dare later on.

Update for future reference of others: ask for a technician as early as you can.

So a technician is coming out next week. Two weeks from when it first went. Amazing... The last help desk girl was really nice, but it's incredible that it's taken so long to get them to send someone out. I miss TV.

    :(

And don't be surprised if nobody calls out next week either,I had reception problems on a few channels over the summer and it was 4 to 5 weeks before I finally got someone out,the gas thing about it is that 2 technicians came at the same time, waiting that long and 2 come at once :D

Waiting for them now. I wish there was some choice in the cable TV market. Can't put up a satellite dish here so I'm stuck with UPC/NTL/Chorus.

    Two weeks without TV. Incredible.

2 weeks ! how'd you cope I'd flip if I was that long without it,you should make sure that you aren't charged for the time you've been without the service ask the technician or give them a call to make sure ;)

He just left. Didn't think of asking him to call them. Very nice guy. Always seem to be when you get through help desks to the actual engineer/tech level. Followed the cable around the building and found that someone had disconnected me. Took a couple of seconds to reconnect. Makes me wish I'd explored a bit more but was assured all the time that they were working in the area. I knew it didn't seem like that kind of problem. Too sudden and complete.

It was pretty irritating. It's not the same watching films. You sometimes want to just turn on whatever is there without actually watching it. I suppose I had better write to them to get back what I've paid for the two weeks. I expect it won't be easy.

Good to hear you're sorted ;) ,It shouldn't be too difficult to get them to credit you for the 2 weeks you were without, ring them up tell them the story they'll check it out that there was a problem probably by looking at the technicians log book or something like that and then you should be credited.

Thanks. Will get onto them. Still kicking myself for just sitting back and not going to find the problem myself.
