I had J.T. winning that by a bit.......
im wondering about the judging on the night had been somewhat erratic !

Great fight though , enjoyed that.

If the Christian Mijares v Jose Navarro judge actually had 120-108 Navarro then he should be permanently banned from judging .

Decent fight , I don't think I enjoyed it as much as the rest of you .
I had Pavlik ahead 116-112 , too much workrate for Taylor who landed the cleaner crisper blows(when he bothered to ****ing throw) .

I think both fighters were more cautious than last time as they realised that the other had the ability to knock them out .

On that evidence I am more confident than ever that both Calzaghe and Kessler would deal with Pavlik and Taylor very easily .

Infact I'm starting to think that Mundine , Bute and maybe even Froch would be decent fights v Taylor and Pavlik as they just don't seem in the same league to me as Calzaghe and Kessler .

Taylor has got a real hard job now as he can't go back to Middleweight and will have to move up permanently to Super-Middleweight .
The best thing for him now would be a money fight against Winky Wright or Felix Trinidad because any proper Super-Middleweight fight that would gain as much attention and money for Taylor would probably be a losing one .

Apparently Tito says he won't get down to 160 to fight Pavlik so it looks like Pavlik v Duddy is definitely on for June . I still don't give Duddy any chance of winning , but last night gets me to think he might be able to make it to the 8th or 9th .

As for Montiel v Castillo , I dunno what Bunce is on(not that he ever talks much sense) claiming Martin Castillo isn't shot .
Castillo used to be the best Super-Flyweight out there , slick and classy as hell . He looked like he was fading a bit to me when he only beat Munoz by SD in their rematch and this was confirmed when he not only lost to Nashiro but was stopped by him too .

I heard he looked absolutely terrible in his comeback fights and 2 years on since he only beat Munoz by SD he seems to have gone past fading and onto shot . At 31 years of age and a Super-Flyweight that is not all that surprising .

Shame really as I would of fancied Castillo to beat Montiel in his prime , anyway Montiel did the job he was meant to do and hopefully Mijares can fight Montiel in the future .

I fancy Mijares to get the better of Montiel .

I thought Taylor did well in the early to mid rounds but Pavilk was the more consistent of the two from around the seventh onwards and judges favour the agressor so i think Pavlik deserved to win it overall.

I thought taylor just nicked it(I predicted a taylor points win so i'm biased :D),one of the judges had pavlik by six rounds 117 to 111 it was alot closer than that if not a draw.
Would of been nice if taylor got the win to set up the trilogy, can't see pavlik beating calzaghe think taylor has a better chance of that but calzaghe still wins imo.

I had pavlik by one round close fight taylor didn't seem like he wanted to dig deep, last knockout had a big affect i think. God the coverage is real bad nothing compared to sky sports.

agree with you about the coverage sky is better but they've dropped the ball on boxing and setanta have picked it up and are running away with it
    Hopefully their coverage will improve.

Yeah, that's seems true. Taylor needed to go forward and boss the fight in the last few rounds but looked like he was afraid of going toe to toe with Pavlik in case he got knocked out. it's a shame because early on in the fight he looked the classier boxer of the two. He was definitely landing the better punches.

It's funny the way boxing goes- Hopkins loses twice to Taylor and now Taylor has lost twice to Pavlik. So, does that mean Pavlik would beat Hopkins?

if taylor landed the better punches but pavlik missed with his but punched more why do the judges favour this?which scores you more points, workrate or punches landed.

On the coverage issue, although setanta isnt as good as sky set wise i like the fact that the guys arent curtailed into a british is best mentality but are allowed a free reign.I infact think bunce is a great laugh, most of what he says is sh##e but he writes pretty well. When they cover the fights themselves the commentary is excellent with john rawling.
    Paul dempsey can be annoying.

After years of nothing except the big fights on tv is great to be able to see nearly every half decent fight on either sky, setanta or itv if its khan.

While Taylor landed the classier looking blows, Pavlik simply landed more !!

That's all there is to it.

He was prepared to work 3 minutes of every round and Taylor wasn't.

I had Pavlik by 3, but was less impressed with him this time out.

Well I couldnt believe my ears , with all the B.S the commentators were coming up with. i thought it was lob-sided commentry to be honest.

When you look at Mayweather's style, its the same situation,
Mayweather is never the busier as such , but lands the more significant blows with accuracy ,thus winning him the rounds ? (eg Baldomir match)
then there are fighters like Winky Wright who can stand there defending prolific punches, and still get awarded the round for producing a smaller amount of quality.

I dont know, maybe im wrong but I always feel that both commentators and especially judges are under massive pressure to support the favourite of a match.
They know that they are under constant scrutiny for any controversial decisions. The crowd are jumping up and down screaming once the home favourite does any slight thing.
they also know that the public expect a certain fighter to be the winner , and tend to see the fight through these eyes, whether they realise it or not.
