I need to flatten a machine with XP Pro & iTunes on it in order to re-install the OS.

Is there any handy way to backup the iTunes library so as to put all the music back when the OS is re-installed?

    OR

Do I have to backup all the music from wherever it's located & import it all back again after the re-install.

If the default settings are used (default location, copying music) you can just copy the iTunes folder in your My Documents/My Music folder and copy it back in again later (before starting iTunes).

Hmm! If the original location of the music was in more then one location ie. in a few different folders or taken from CD this would not work, right?

By that I mean the folder structure on the new install would not be exactly the same?

I'm afraid you will have to give that to me in English odie? :D

If it's a clean install of both the OS & iTunes, what does it matter?

...lol.. ok so i'll give it a try..

Its just that if you purchase music from itunes you can only play it back on 5 machines, So just make sure you de-authorize your itunes store before you wipe your machine if you dont you will only have 4 machines left to play your music on. (however you can reset it once year on your itunes account)

I got caught recently i had my music authorized on 5 machines and did a clean install on my laptop and wasnt able to play my itunes music on it, I had to wait 2 months before itunes would let me reset my account....rrrrggghhh

    Hope that explains ...

Well, yes odie, now I understand. I wasn't aware of that, so cheers for the Info.

I don't have iTunes to hand at the minute. Whereabouts in the Prog will I find the option to deauthorize?
