If you have a Sky+ box, and a viewing card that is registered for Sky+, what functionality will you have if you only have one input connected to the dish. Obviously you'll only have one channel at a time, but can you record it, set to record via planner, live pause etc?

AFAIK the cables sole purpose is to bring in the signal so I reckon you would have all the normal functionality in terms of recording etc... but if you change the channel while recording there would be no signal. There must be some electronic component in the machine that switches the signal from one input to the other when you press record, thus allowing you to watch one thing while recording another (also meaning that if you record a second program you have to watch it), hence if you press record you would be switching to an input with no cable and no signal.

Im no expert but thinking about it logically I reckon thats what the story would be.

    Yeah that is right.

you just get no signal received on all other channels.
You can however watch something else that has been recorded or anything on Anytime.

Also, you will have a problem with recordings when in standby.
When the box is in standby it uses signal two to record. It doesnt automatically go to signal one should it find no signal on signal 2.
So, if you need this functionality then put the cable into signal two. But you will have to go to a channel set it to record and then browse to the channel you want to be able to watch tv normally.

Or, go to maplin and get one of the (labelled "Hi-Isolation cable switch) switch boxes and two patch leads. Put the one feed to the middle connection and the two outputs to each input on the sky box. So when you are out or want the box to record when in standby just switch it to signal two and switch it back to one when you want to watch it normally.

Note, anytime downloads are on signal one. So only switch to signal two when required.

Or switch of auto-standby and leave the sky+ box on all the time
May be of use to you

By the way, how have you ended up with just one cable anyway? Or is it a hypothetical situation?

Got HD where I had Sky+. Have a standard digibox in another room but just one cable.

Probably should have got them to move the Sky+ box to replace the standard box and run a second cable when you were getting the HD install.
Also would have counted as multiroom so free installation.

Exactly what i did when i got HD recently
