    Hello All
Their is a kerry V's Tyrone game near me on saturday evening i might be able to get back to it but i dont think there is much point with a 90-300 f/5.6?
Im shooting it on a 20D but that doesnt make any difference!
Only other alternative in my nifty 50 :p

    What do you think?

Last evening match I was at was 1/500th @ f3.2 and ISO 1600, you might be able to get away with it in ISO 3200 with the f5.6?

If you've got bright sunlight it'll probably be alright. Given that its an evening game though, it might be a bit dark :o I don't know what exact lens you have but most of them will only be as slow as f/5.6 at their maximum focal length. Sigma 70-300 is f/4 at 70mm.

For any evening and floodlit game, you really need a f/2.8 lens.

f/5.6 is just too slow, unless you're using very high ISO and slower shutter speed.

    Yeah it under flood lights
Mine would be 4.5 at 90mm
I think kick off is at eith 7 or 7:30
I will be going to munster v's Ulster in march and hopefully they'll still be a bit of sun for that :D

    I've a 400mm 5.6.

Floodlit is going to be fairly dark, but if you plan well not impossible.

Try and get head on shots (i.e.people running towards you) rather than side on where you'll need a much higher shutter speed.

I've used the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS L before at rugby games, and just found it too slow. But, yeah, good planning and anticipation of the action will still allow you to get good shots.

I guess with anything, good planning is all you need, and enough light to capture some image.

I've a few sports events to cover this weekend, including the Leinster game tomorrow evening.

I'm covering that rugby game and have my accreditation for it. Today I got delivery of my 300mm f/2.8 right in time for the cup final tomorrow.

I'd actually say to go anyway and try. You'll get to know positions to sit, things to look for, and you should be able to get a few shots. Don't expect much though.

You will then see a massive improvement when you do get the f/2.8 lens.
