Hi I was just wondering does anyone have a rough idea of what Ehobby charge to ship an AEG to Dublin as I can't see it listed on their ebay page?
    Thanks a lot

Around 50-70 usd depending on weight.

Thanks a lot, will they reduce the fps on the AEG's or would I have to buy one that was already below 328fps?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

as far as i know, ehobby will not do downgrades prior to shipping, so you'll have to make sure anything you order is below 328fps

Go through the checkout process, and before you have to confirm your order, it'll tell you how much the shipping is.

Shipping from RSOV is very reasonable but again it depends on the item.:(

What would happen if you order an AEG that is over 1J from ehobby on the knowledge that you will downgrade it yourself?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

If customs get it and send it for testing/know it's over powered they will destroy it, i believe they have a list of over powered airsoft devices to make the process quicker

You'd be illegally importing a firearm.

Actually, lets just say tomorrow I bought an AEG (which I wont because I'm broke....) and the web-site didn't mention the power, but customs found it to be 2-3J and destroyed it, would I be in any trouble? Would I get any notification or an angry letter or something?

It is your responsibility to ensure anything you import is within the legal limit.

Look guys, I will make this simple because I have found alot of people asking me this: If I buy a AEG over the limit will it get into the country?
MY ANSWER: NO!!! It will not, customs will seize it , destroy it and that will be the end of it. Airsoft has such a mixed review with the public/gardaì that we dont want to make things worse and go and start talking about bringing in illegal firearms. Statements even though if they are just queries like above should not be posted. Read the newbie section.

Paintball Markers are considered firearms as they are over 1J arent they ?
(Not 100% sure of my facts here so paintballers feel free to correct me)
But I thought you only needed a letter of permission from the Superintendant
of your local station and not a full firearms licence that
you pay 35 Euro a year for??
Why cant the same principle be applied to airsoft markers?

If its over 1J then its considered a firearm we all know that.

We also know we are not allowed to have converstion about breaking the
law and avoiding customs charges etc etc etc

What I am about to write is all Perfectly Legal to do acording to
    Irish laws...................................

If you want something bad enough and its over the 1J limit its a firearm.
If its a firearm then you can get it licenced.
(Note you need the License first)
then there should be a way to Contact the Gardai and get it Licenced as a Firearm.
With Real steel you get an Article 7 and need the firearm licenced BEFORE you import
it into the country. In theory you should be able to do the very same thing
with an Airsoft product and it would be Perfectly Legal.

The problem I see is that Airsoft AEG's dont usually have unique serial number
so maybe that causes issues as on Firearms licences the serial number always appears.
Other dis-advantage is you need a seperate licence for each firearm.
(The Irish system of licencing firearms may just crash!!)

[Edit] now that I think about it cross bows need to be licensed and they dont
have a serial number so maybe there is a way to legally license an AEG that
    is greater than 1J

Stretching out the theory thread a little further.......
Suppose you get permission from the Gardai and actually manage to licence and import
an airsfoft product Legally and you get and pay for a licence for it. which will cost
you 35 Euro per year per firearm.

THEN after you licence it and get permission you yourself perform a Downgrade to under
1J the following year when the Licence comes up for re-newel you could contact
your Superintendant and explain that it is no longer considered a firearm therefore
no longer required the firearms licence.

This would all be perfectly legal to do and its not breaking any laws!!!!

Bullets, there is one important thing being overlooked when trying to draw parallels with paintball.

AFAIK, the DPP has been directed not to prosecute in the case of paintball within defined parameters (i.e. strictly defined game-sites) since people are technically aiming and discharing firearms at other people. Airsoft would have no such 'protection' and as such you would be committing a serious and prosecutable offense by doing so.

This is all from my understanding of how paintball sits legally within Irish legislation and practices so I am open to correction.

The problem then exists that even if you did intend on downgrading once delivery has been effected, how are customs & the Gardai to know or determnine that either you a) will downgrade, b) are technically capable or have access to such capability for downgrading, and c) are aware of the legality and wont just go out and skirmish with your > 1j AEG ?

An interesting idea, about licencing and then importing airsoft devices that are +1J with the intention of downgrading them to make them legal to skirmish. I tend to agree with Lemming that the powers that be are unlikely to go for it.

The specific defence that paintballers have in relation to using paintball markers makes me wonder if our IAA representatives have considered approaching the DOJ about getting a similar protection for airsofters so for people who wanted to i.e. snipers (with minimum range rules of course)?

not to be quoted on this but i have heard somwhere that airsoft devices over 1J are classed as firearms but are not powerful enough to be licenced as firearms? the serial number isnt a requirement as bullets said, what with crossbows having a similar issue.,

I think that was debunked as an urban myth? In any case, you still have the issue of discharging what is classed as a firearm without protection from the DPP

If you use article 7 and licence to import over the limit airsoft product.
The product is licenced and you have permission to own it Before
its in the Country. There would be no issue with customs or the gardai.
so a,b,c would not come into effect as you would have a licenced firearm
which could not be used to skirmish with. (Skirmish sites chrono everything
before play so would not allow a >1j to be used)

Once you have it you can either keep it as a firearm and renew your licence
each year and pay each year. or the choice would be there
to downgrade it at a later stage.

If the owner decided to downgrade they could get the gardai to test it.

This is an extreme way to abide by the laws and get what you want
and a lot of hassle but the idea was only hypothetical.

When I was buying the AW338 I was half thinking of licencing it as it was
over 1J but thankfully the seller was able to downgrade it for me before
It was shipped so I did not need to.

What do reckon the waiting times on 2 aegs from RSOV would be?

They're under the 1 joule mark so whats the craic with customs?

Are they going to start charging me for something 2?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

the customs could bill you for 21% of the total value of the items if they get stopped even if they are perfectly legal.,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Blackthorn1011

Cheers vtec How long would you reckon it would delay them if customs were to get them?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

they'll send you a letter requesting proof of what you paid for the items, a paypal reciept and that sort of thing, then you send that in or email it to them and they will send you another letter requesting whatever the tax amount is by postal order including a €5 postal charge, if ya dont get back to them within 15 days then they'll return the package to the sender.,

Cheers vtec How long would you reckon it would delay them if customs were to get them?

After I faxed them and emailed a receipt when they stopped a package for
me they released it same day. They were CRAP to deal with on the phone
and not very friendly. email worked better!

yeah they can be pretty arrogant., i had to get in touch with them to complain about not having any reply after i sent the proof of payment and then they sent me a threatening letter basically saying you better hurry up and reply with the payment or were gonna sent it back.,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 99 ✭✭Blackthorn1011

Hmm, sounds like hassle, i might just wait till Tony or IAS resupply, probably will be quicker anyway.

    Cheers lads.

as a further aside, i just got stuff from ehobby...shipped wednesday...arrived in my hands this morning....

This is what I see when I go to buy an item from eHobby:

"Shipping and handling: To Ireland -- Not specified"

And the only button on the screen is "Confirm to Buy". So how can I tell what the shipping is going to be before I "Commit to Buy"? I don't really want to commit to buy something and discover that the shipping is going to cost an arm and a leg.

simple email them in regard to the item you want to buy, also if you buy it and then simple request and invoice, but simple email them first there normally fast in getting back to people.

ehobby are great for prices but I really think its time for them
to step up and facilitate the EU countries.

Currently they will combine shipping for USA countries but
no EU countries. There are other scary things that happen when
you surf the shop and see stock the will only be sent to the USA but
not anyplace else yet if you buy it it gets delivered anyway.

They dont offer combined shipping so you end up paying shipping
charges on each item ordered yet once you pay them
they are more than happy to ship everything in the one box!!!!
    Thats not on!
    .

if its just something small then put in the same amount that the listing shows for shipping to america, on bigger items they'll charge more though.,

EDIT: yeah i agree with ya there bullets, ive had orders with 6-7 items in them and had to pay for every items postage, its a silly down side to probaby the best place to get accessories and stuff. they should sort something out there.,

I sent a message through eBay almost a week ago (12th Feb) and I have not heard back from them yet.

As bullets mentions in this thread, they list shipping costs for accessories and not for AEG's, GBB's etc. And if you navigate from ebay.ie, you can't even see their AEG/GBB stock.

As long as people continue to buy from them, they won't change a thing :(

no always use ebay.com "prohibited" items dont show on .ie, even though there not prohibited.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

well its not on ebay.ie because of ebay...thats nothing to do with ehobby. your battle is with ebay and allowing aeg's to be sold.

on ehobby, they will respond if they didnt you are best sending it again and keep in mind the chinese new year holiday is just finishing.
