Is WakeUp the best hostel in Sydney to settle in & meet people if you're setting out on the road? I would be willing to pay more for the 1st place I go just to get settled? Any experience?

It depends what you look for .. it is central, above a cheap backpacker bar, and lots of people will go there

If you want a nights sleep maybe somewhere else, if you want to go somewhere central and lively then go for it

prob about $10 a night more than some of the other places

I'm setting out on a Round the world backpacking adventure & looking to other travellers to go with. I heard Sydney was the central hub of backpackers worldwide so I'm starting there. Where would you Recomend? I'm 24.

I think it depends on what time of year you are going to Sydney before you can say it is backpacker central. Most backpackers in Australia try to head for Sydney for a few months around Christmas time.

Dont worry about your hostel too much, if you dont like it just move to a differnet one, once you get the city correct you will be grand. Personally I didn't like the idea of living "in the city" and preffered to be a little outside it and beside the beach. i.e Coogee or Bondi for Sydney, St.Kilda for Melbourne.
