Please help with DVB-S card & SKY

    Hi everyone!
I have been spending soo much time trying to get this to work that I think a "divorce" is imminent!!
I have a Hauppauge NOVA-S-Plus DVB-S tuner in a VISTA MCE machine (I have also tried using MEDIAPORTAL), but I just can not get any services when scanning.
I have a standard SKY dish and LNB installed by SKY installer. I have tried to scan for channels on ASTRA2/Hotbird and ASTRA1 but can just simply receive nothing at all!
Now, in fairness, I am a newbie in this field and do not really know what I am doing (well..., with regards to satelites etc) I am well versed with PC's OS's etc.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
My main concern that the problem may lie with the Tuner being faulty. I have recently purchased it, and I just want to make sure that its not faulty. I do not want to look a right PLANK when returning it, just to discover that it was an "ID 10 T" error!

    Thanks in advance...:o

I'm not familiar with the tuner card you have, but I'm assuming you can give it exact parameters to tune to (i.e. frequency, polarisation, fec etc) ?

If so, try tuning the free to air BBC channels first as a sanity check. The details for the BBC transponders can be found here:

It seems that I only have the option to select which satelites I wish to point to, and then it automatically scans the freqencies for that satelite.
Is it possible to pickup FTA channels on my standard SKY disk thats setup to receive my SKY subcription channels?

Thanks for your reply. I will check out the URL and play around a bit with the tuner config. I might be missing something...

Hi, If you boot your Sky digibox with the smart card removed then it will start with the default (UK-London) EPG and you will be able to view all the FTA channels. You can view most of them with your smartcard in the box, but some do not show up in the epg (including BBC3, BBC4 and BBCHD)

have you tried the hauppauge software itself, from their website... i didn't think mce supported satellite without a lot of messing about
