Robson only took charge of the Blades last May
Sheffield United boss Bryan Robson has been relieved of first-team duties following talks about his future at the club, BBC Radio Sheffield understands.
The news comes after Robson met club chairman Terry Robinson and plc chairman Kevin McCabe on Wednesday.

Both chairmen told BBC Radio Sheffield the talks had been constructive and there would be "reasoned changes to the football infrastructure".

The Blades sit 16th in the Championship seven points off the relegation zone.

Robson, 50, took charge at Bramall Lane in May, nine days after the Blades' dramatic relegation from the Premier League on the last day of the season.

But despite their pre-season aim of returning to the top flight, United have won just nine of 32 Championship fixtures, and top scorer James Beattie has only just returned to action after a long lay-off because of a knee ligament injury.

The talks took place in Brussels, Belgium, and were held following a fans protest against Robson after Saturday's goalless draw with Scunthorpe.

Robson, who admitted prior to the meeting that he could be running out of time in the job, said the fans' reaction had not helped the team in the goalless draw.

"They were on my back and the players' backs very early on in the game," said the former Middlesbrough boss.

"If we'd had better support from them I feel we could have gone on to win."

Gone are the days when managers are given time obviously.

I wonder is it too late to get rid of Trapatoni and get Robbo instead?;)
    Cursed timing!

Football has gone mad... Clubs want instance success and if they don't get it they let the manager go. Idiots.

I always quite liked the Sheffield clubs, united in particular, but if they have small-minded idiots running the club, they deserve to get relegated...

Robson is a crap manager, and has done a terrible job at United. He didn't have a bad squad, and spent a decent amount in the summer - yet the performances and results have been terrible.

I fail to see how this sacking is either a shock or unjustified.

There was a great letter to the brilliant soccer magazine 'When Saturday Comes' where the writer suggested that the highest placed regelated team have to employ Bryan Robson as their manager in the Championship cos his poor managment skills will off set the advantage that the team get from a large premiership parachute payout.

Seems to have worked this time.
