Nothing official as the line up for The Picnic hasn't been confirmed yet but apparently Kevin Shields has been telling anyone who'll listen that they've been booked and will definitley be playing.

I think today should be known as My Bloody Valentines Day from now on as an ode to this momentous news :p

Are you sure they will? Didn't they turn down a couple of festivals because most of the noise restrictions at outdoor gigs mean that they can't play as loud as they like? I'll probably go if they play though. <3 MBV.

It seems to be common knowledge that they're playing alright. Not sure if it's true or not but it definitely won't hurt ticket sales of the EP.

I'm going to see them in Manchester anyways but it would be great to see them in Ireland too! :D

Heard that they've turned down Glastonbury for that very reason. Hopefully the Electric Picnic is louder!

I hope MBV are playing 'proper' dates in Ireland as well as any festival appearance. I saw them in the SFX many moons ago and it was so loud and distorted I could barely make out which songs they were playing.
I was wondering why they were selling ear plugs in the lobby. Ear plugs would definitely have improved the experience but still, amazing gig.

Hope the organisers have the sense to put them on the main stage not in some tent where the sound will be terrible and a massive queue outside to get into it

I think I was at this same gig, there was a guy kneeling on the ground in front of me holding his ears and screaming (no kidding), other people were leaving or else going back to lobby to buy earplugs. I've never experienced anything like that level of noise, my ears were ringing for days...

i wholeheartedly agree! I remember the sound last year for Chem Bros was crap, I was sober boo and remember being disappointed as I'd seen them twice before and loved it!

Leftfield? nice. It's been ages since I whipped out Leftism!

A few on that list won't be playing anyway (Battles, Justice) as they are already booked for Irish summer festivals.

There is a a list on Nialler9's blog that looks promising.

What a lineup! Cant wait for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

Fairly poor line up in my eyes, especially for the money. Mogwai would've been awesome. Ah I'll probably go anyway, never been to EP and I hear it's more about the fun than the acts. Some big hip hop and dance acts would be essential. Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, LFO, MF DOOM or J5.

Sigur Ros and MBV are the only real acts that stand out for me there. Roots and Underworld should be interesting. Otherwise a big overstated MEH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

It seems to be going towards a more eclectic rather than electric line up a la Glastonbury. Some bands I'd love to see (either for the first time or again) but equally a lot of MOR rubbish. Franz Ferdinand? Duffy? Pah!

And is Henry Rollings a mispelling of Henry Rollins?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭the hero game

make sure to check out micah p hinson, amazing esp. live..
i've never gone to EP but i will this time, i think the line-up is great, mbv, s ros, tindersticks, hinson etc. plus the likes of CSS will be great fun etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭doonothing

    Grinderman!
    I'm there

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,478 ✭✭✭Bubs101

Gotta say that it's a shocking line-up. Wilco and Bright Eyes are the only ones I'd pay to see doing a one of show (maybe Nick Cave solo as well) and there's very few I'd be curious about (Clinton being the only one that jumps out). Also, Franz as headliners? This is shocking considering where Picnic was a couple of years ago.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,203 ✭✭✭Attractive Nun

Not too impressed really. I was planning on cutting my summer in Canada short to make it back for this, but not too sure if I will anymore.

Aside from My Bloody Valentine and Wilco, there's no one there I'd be dying to see, really. Grinderman, Goldfrapp and Sigur Ros would be the only others I'd make sure not to miss, and probably Faust. But apart from that, there's really only acts I've heard about or might check out for the novelty factor.

And I agree, Franz Ferdinand (and even the Sex Pistols, tbh) as headliners is terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,739 ✭✭✭✭minidazzler

I want to go to it but tickets go on sale in 4.5 hours and my money never came in!!! I hate the people I work for!!!!!!!

I mean Josh Ritter, Lisa Hannigan, Bright Eyes!!!!!! Its feckin Amazin!!!!! I wanna GO!!!!!!

There are more bands to be added... it always happens...

For me though Electric Picnic isn't about the line-up, its about the weekend and the good craic down there. Previous years I have thought that the line-up didn't look great and I went anyway and seen a few bands that I'd never seen before, which turned out to be really good. There's a lot more to EP than just the music, but I generally would see a good few bands over the weekend..
