When i try to install windows it will bring up the blue screen showing all the copying windows dlls. When it gets to the loading windows part to partition the drives it gives me the blue screen of death is it my SATA Harddrives causing this? If so is there away around it?
I also have trouble installing Linux Ubuntu it gives me a GRUB error at the boot screen. Gentoo ive only tried the Live CD

I'm new to the forums so Thanks in advanced

Sounds like you need to install the additional drivers for your SATA drives...
What version of Windows are you trying to install?

    Theres your problem....

Use the Dell supplied disk...with Media Centre as it will have all the drivers for your SATA drives.

If you are using another Windows XP disk, as it is probably older it won't have SATA drivers on it. So basically if you are going down this route you need to press F6 (to install additional raid/scsi drivers during install) for the SATA drives. Thats the easy part, trying to identify the SATA Drives you have, find drivers for them and burn the drivers to cd/floppy is the pain in the arse part.

Likewise you will need to do the same for a Linux install. Ran into this problem myself just got pi$$ed off and threw Media Centre back on it. Theres not much Dell software on the disk though and you can always uninstall it once your done?
