I have a problem with one of the lads laptop from work! What happens is it boots up fine but the second it goes to desktop explorer.exe stops responding and tries to restart itself and then then the whole screen flashes! It wont let me do anything else.. but I can run task manager.

Things we have tried is, normal restart, system restore, boot into safe mode and system restore.. the same flashing happens. Im googling it now to try find something but nothing so far..

Only thing I can think is getting the vista disk and repairing the laptop somehow? Im not sure if you can repair it that way? Haven't used vista in months!

    Any ideas?

Have you tried starting explorer, or any other program, from the Task Manager? Do you get a not valid Win32 application if it fails?

    Does your Start menu disappear?

Do you use Comodo firewall & Defense+ V3 or above?

Has your friend installed any kind of plugins/helpers for explorer? Anything in the logs(explorer errors)?

The whole thing flashes on and off constantly not leaving me do anything!

Ive tried quiting and starting explorer.exe a few times and running msconfig to stop all start up programs incase I thought it was a virus from download a movie..

    Im really stuck on this...

I dont get anything else besides explorer.exe has stopped responding and tries to restart!

Is the google taskbar installed with a load of gadgets??

That caused me a few problems with Explorer.exe when I got my machine.

IE is part of the O/S and cannot be uninstalled.

Try and work your way back through any recently installed programs, assuming you have recently installed some.

I also assume that none of my queries earlier are true?

Youd be quickest just to reinstall windows, if uve a disk lyin about. Thatll take no more than 2 hrs, as u can waste endless time tryin to fix things with windows.
