Hi guys. Going down to Kerry from the North East on Thursday with the family. Anyone know a nice spot to stop and get a bite to eat on the way?

Whatever you do DON'T stop in the Leix County Hotel in Boris-in-Ossory!!!

Used to do that trip a lot and the only place we found that was o.k is Racket Hall. It's just outside Roscrea on the left, the Dublin side as far as I can remember. As soon as you see the golf course you're there and there's lotsa flags along the front wall so look out for those too.

If you're in Listowel definately try Allo's for their early menu! Gorgeous pub/restaurant full of atmosphere and the early menu is almost the same as the later much more expensive one!

And kids welcome too for the earlier menu at least, possibly the later one too.

Thanks Sudzs! Its probably the only place I know on that road. Stayed in Racket Hall for a weekend a long long time ago. Might check it out for lunch.

When you get into Limerick, there is a nice pub called Finnegan's at the roundabout. Their food is great (you will have worked up a good hunger by the time you make it that far!), it is reasonable too.

Just go straight at the roundabout, I think it's the junction at the N7 and N20/N21 - the pub is about 1 minute's drive.

Nice one thanks for the recommendations. I'll be doing well to make Limerick without stopping with a 6 and 7 year old in the back of the car.
Daddy daddy are we there yet?

    ;)

If it suits time wise stop at Joel's Restaurant near Newlands x - worng side of road though - but good food and no delays.

Kelly's Foundry Restaurant near the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise

As mentioned, Racket Hall in Roscrea.

    Matt the Threasher's in Birdhill

and again as mentioned earlier Finnegan's in Annacotty, Limerick (3rd exit of roundabout and it's on your left.

Have stopped in Matt the Treshers a few times. It's a fine place to get something to eat; it won't set the culinary world on fire but you can get a decent steak. Not cheap though.
