Yeah, my question was kind of a serious one. Why would there be a 5 / 10 game out of the blue? Or have the regs lost all reason and decided that they can stick the usual 2k on the table and just make it easier than ever to play for stacks...:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,751 ✭✭✭BigCityBanker

basically the regs heard about some tourney donks getting a score lately and this game has been set up in an effort to relieve them of their money.

Rumour has it that a couple of "Hicks from Fermanagh" are on their way down.

There was a rumour to that effect Smurph (well something a little stronger then a rumour).

If anyone is genuinely interested I'd suggest giving the lads a ring and you might get some names. The early start time and the specific date of the game suggests to me that there may indeed be some value...

I'm expecting some sick trip reports from this game, involving nine high in some way perhaps.

No names , but a lot of interest apparently.

I'm going to reserve my judgement for tonight and see who turns up and what it plays like.

Huh. So we just wander in without a clue who pushed for this game or who is due in town for it?

I am a bit suspicious as well. I may badger the Richard Dreyfus looking Full Tilt guy to go and give me a report. Odd night...if it were a non-school night, I might be in...

Am I missing something here? what is there to be suspicious about?

    - why is there a 5 / 10 game?
    - who requested it?
    - who will be playing it?

what difference does the answer to those questions make? if there is a 1/2 game running do you ask who was first on the list before getting into it. If the table has 8 strangers do you choose not to get in?

why is there a 5/10 game? some people asked for it.
who requested it? some customers of the SE.
who will be playing it? Me, Mickste, O'Shea, Fallon and others im sure.

you wouldnt get into a 1/2/5 nl game with me, mick, paul and adam a few weeks back (but curiously waited to get in with Reesey, O'Shea and O'D game selection FTW) so I doubt your gonna be rushing in to add the value to a 5/10 game for us this evening. On that basis I fail to see a) why you have heightened interest in this game b) why you are suspicious

Some of the stuff amazes me in this thread. I don't see why people are so intrigued as to why the game is running and/or who will be playing it. If someone has no intention of playing the game then I'm not sure why they feel the need to post in the thread. If they are thinking of playing, then well and good.

A similar thing happened a few months ago when Oscar posted about a 10 20 game in Luke's. Various people posted in the thread asking who was playing the game when it was clear that there was a less than zero chance of them playing it.

I will most likely be in at some stage tonight but I will, as I always do, check out the game and the line up etc. for myself. To say you are "suspicious" is odd imo. I always feel it is a bit unnecessary as the use of the word suspisious insinuates that not everything is above board with regards the game. I know for a fact that the line up will feature a few strange faces but it is not my business to discuss the game's players here, and so, as I said if you want to play it then you know where to find it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,433 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Good Lord. A 5 / 10 game springing out of nowhere is odd. It would be the first 5 / 10 nl game the SE has ever organised. I could play in the game if I wanted to (I could play in a 10 / 20 game for that matter if I pleased). My questions relate to the fact that sitting in a game with Noel, Adam, John, Rory, Gavin, Robin, Eoin etc, etc would be a waste of my time because I would be the value. But if the game contained a number of people who tend to frequent the gaming floor downstairs but specifically requested some poker for a bit of fun the game may very well be worth a visit. As such, I was hoping that someone would give an indication as to which of the two scenarios above was the case.

In any case, this is a public forum and I'll post what I ****ing please once it doesn't break the charter. Maybe suspicious was the wrong word to use. 'Intrigued' would be better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 970 ✭✭✭thechamp87

Intrigued is much better imo. And I can see why people would be intrigued.
Also, apologies, I didn't intend that post to seem like it was aimed at Lloyd, as it wasn't. I have had it on my mnd since Oscar's thread about the 10 20 game in Luke's.

i posted in oscars thread asking who was playing, and i had no intention of playing. i was being nosey, but also would have found it of interest to know what "pro's" are playing it, and may have been interested in going in to rail, as its not often that these "nosebleed" nl games take place on our front door.

Also it was posted for everyones attention the names of those interested in a small afternoon game in oscars, im not sure that the stakes should differ as to posting this information.

If the players asked not to have their names publicised, then its understandable - but if a public forum is used to advertise a game, then i think there is no problem asking the question - "who is playing", it will become common knowledge after it anyways.

The use of the word suspicious was out of place

Also fwiw, as regards tonights game i was interested, and not just poking my nose in

Its not really out of nowhere, besides the names already mentioned in this thread I can think of another 7 or 8 players who would happily play this game. Also as I see it the 1/2NL game has been playing a lot bigger so makes sense to try to get the extra rake.

As far as the 10/20 NL game I was trying to get going there was a specific fish related reason for that.

Wish Id started taking br management seriously years ago so that I could play some of these games.

Table lineup is BCB, Mickste, Champ87, Eoin O Dea, CDelaney, John Swarbrig, Jayminator, Murat and Warren W.

Not far different from your 2/5 game but with bigger stakes and the biggest fish of them all!

I was presuming it was jay o toole after escaping for a few hours. Could be a different Jay

bloody murat . making the right call aginst him only for someone to wake up with his 4th bottom set of the night. ouch

This game started off slowly with some weaker players but as the night went on it did become more difficult. enjoyed it even though i lost. With at least 18players participating could see this becoming regular , maybe not weekly, but definately regular. avg stack between 1.5-2k

I managed only an hour at this table gents before the 1am baby feed kicked in. Had to run home having neither won nor lost anything.

This game should take off I reckon with quite a few of the SE 1/2 PL regulars who are now just obviously bored or sick of the 1/2 game.
