    Hey chewy,

There are many options open to you. You can get all-in-one surround sound systems from as little as €150 all the way up to spending thousands. What's your budget?

thousands is way WAY over my budget! i didnt know i could get one for as cheap as 150. i just want something basic.just to have surround sound from my movies and games. i know this makes me sound cheap but i dont really want to spend any more than about 300:(

You are looking at around €300 for decent surround system that has OPTICAL input for feeding 5.1 sound from PS3. Many of the cheaper players won't have this and so will be useless for your needs.

ok then, maybe not that cheap. so i need a system with an optical input? any recommendations?

Small, Large room? Apartment or House? Colour? What brand TV do you have?

As the lads said, it depends on your budget. Saw a BOSS (or is it BOSE?) speaker one of the days for about €600. And that's just one speaker:eek:

Have something like this Yamaha thing in the house. It's nice. Very nice. Esp when a chopper goes from one side to the other side in a movie. F**k hearing it: feel the bloody thing fly by.

I got the one syco linked to about a month ago in peats for € 400. Cheaper here http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/542071/art/yamaha/av-3101-home-cinema-syste.html

Find it excellent. Have a few blu ray films which are class. The optical connection is a must with whatever you buy and this has three (as far as I can tell). Unreal tournament with it is almost scary good.

radio also surprisingly good and find myself istening to it quite a bit.

Would concur with syco and recommend

The AV61 Syco linked too is an excellent system. It's great value for money as it's a proper home cinema receiver. It's a better bet than the home cinema systems you can get from the likes of Sony or Panasonic. While they are decent enough the Yamaha amp above kills them on capability and versatility.

There's an Accoustic Soloutions 5.1 system available form Argos for c €150.

It's not on the Irish website, here's the UK one:

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5136144/Trail/C%24cip%3D1500011405.Sound%2Band%2Bvision%3EC%24Brands%3DAcoustic+Solutions.Acoustic%2BSolutions%3EC%24cip%3D1500011475.Home%2Baudio.htm

Have had the previous model for 4+ years with no problems. Power is a bit on the low side, but more than enough for a small room. Optical input, and also standard stereo inputs if you want to hook up your Sky or Chorus.

    +1

I have the yamaha too, connected to PS3 and Sky HD and I'm well impressed with it, sound is amazing. For €300 I would recommend it to anyone

The Logitech Z-5500 5.1 system with optical is brilliant. I recently got it for my PS3 and the sound is amazing. Excellent quality at €278 and Komplett had it delivered in a matter of days.

The only thing about it is that the subwoofer is really big. I mean, you may be expecting something quite large, but when you get it out of the box it'll be bigger than you expected.

Just remember that it has an optical output but doesn't come with an optical cable, so if you're ordering it from Komplett you may as well order an optical cable too.

I've got the Z-5450's... They are almost identical to the 5500 afaik, but the 5450's have wireless rear speakers. Well, you have to plug them in, but they don't need to be connected to the amp!!

Either set will dramatically improve your gaming, not to mention movie watching!!!

Are these the same? because they have different names on the sites.one is the yamaha AV-3101 and the other says yamaha AV61

My understanding is that they are the same, although i'll admit the different names to the packages is confusing. Both have the RXV361 receiver and NS-P110 speaker package. Someone else may be able to back me up on this.

Another +1 for the logitech Z-5500. Great job and not too big, well the sub is massive but the speakers are a decent size with a great output.

    the room is quite small.
If you get the Yamaha system, only turn it up 20%

OOhh that's so true. They are incredibly powerful, I could never crank the volume up where I live, that'd just be inconsiderate to my neighbours. :p
