Sky+ upgrade, do I need a callout?

I'm an existing Sky customer and want to upgrade to Sky+. Is it possible to get Sky+ without sending out an engineer. I have two cable runs already connected. Can I buy a Sky+ box and then ring sky to match my card? The reason I ask is I can't take time off work to wait around for a call out.

    yep... i think so...

i upgraded from + to HD recently and did it all over the phone... no need for engineer.

Yep, you can, just did it myself there a few days ago.

the only problem is getting your hands on a sky+ box, well, at a reasonable price that is.

Thanks guys, is ebay the best place to pick up sky+ box or is there anywhere I can get one new?

there's a few satellite shops that do em new, but you're talking at least 200 squid for the latest model, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of a DIY job, lol.

they pop up now and then over on adverts.ie, otherwise yeh, Ebay is your best bet.

This place does repairs but it might be worth asking if they have any refurbished boxes for sale. http://www.pacelink.co.uk/
This type of place often ends up with repaired boxes that the customer decided not to pay for!

Hi Sam, do you know if Gordon still owns the place?

Funny you should mention this, as only the other day, one of the lads at work insist he has stopped repairing boxes. However, he could be wrong! We used to get plenty of refurb ZIF tuners for 2500's from him over the years, though not in recent times.

I'm in a similar situation. I've moved into a rented house with a minidish all nicely lined up, but no box (I've borrowed a box to check the dish, and it's kosher).

I'd like to get Sky+, but the shop in town say they're not allowed to sell it to me, and Sky say they won't send the box out without sending the boys around, which is an extra €45 I'd rather spend on drink.

I know I'll need an extra coax and a dual/quad LNB, but that's the kind of work I'm happy to do myself. Are my only options to pay the Sky tax or get a box on eBay?

Do you need to upgrade subscription for Sky+ and how much does it cost?

If you subscribe to at least 1 of the premium packs (Sky Sports Mix or Movie Mix) it's free.... I think. Otherwise it's €10 a month extra.

I know when I took it out I needed 2 of the "Mixes", but they we're split, i.e. Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 3 we're separate (including Sky Sports 2 / Xtra free)

Sky Movies 1, Sky Movies 2 we're separate (including other movie channel variations free)

    Hope I'm making sense!

There isn't any charge for Sky+. It's gone since last August or so. As long as you have a Sky subscription, you have Sky+.
