Bean bags....good or bad?

    Hi,

I am not sure is this is the right forum for this question but I spent ages looking for an appropriate forum and I think this is the best match.

I have a bit of a bad back, it gets stiff if I haven't been exercising regularly, it tends to be at it's worsk after a long session watching TV on the couch. I was thinking of getting a large bean bag as they are very comfortable but mainly because the seem to offer great support for the back when sitting on them.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? would they actually offer good support for my back or is there a likelyhood they are just going to make things worse.

    Thanks
    Sconsey

I would suggest growing some muscles in your back rather than using a bean bag.

--> Deadlifts, Pull Ups, Back Stretches.

Google them if you don't know what they are.

You get a stiff back from not exercising and sitting at work and on the couch for long periods.

You want to know if a bean bag will facilitiate your sitting for long periods.

I can see why you were not sure fitness forum would be the place to post this.

While I have had a sore back from time to time (couldnt move much on Saturday) I take the approach of avoiding the things that make it sore and doing the things that make it better.

Simple standing forward bends for 30s release my back.

    Sconsey,

When you sit on the couch, try putting a small pillow or a rolled up jumper behind you to support your low back. Position it so that the low back is curved inwards - this takes the pressure off the discs in your lumbar spine. Sitting in a slouched position increases the pressure and can aggravate back pain. Sitting in a bean bag chair will probably just encourage you to slouch more, making the pain worse. Give it a try and see if that gives relief.

    Regards,

    Brian

DON'T get a bean bag,it will make a right sh1te of your back and make you a lot worse. They do not offer good support for your back in anyway shape or form.I presume you are already lounging on a couch which is not a good idea either.Your going to have to change your sitting posture mate, avoid sitting in soft chairs for long periods or else use some lumbar support or rolled up towel to support your back if you have to.I have a kitchen chair in the sitting room to use now and again to keep my posture better,it can be a bit annoying at first constantly watching your posture but you get used to it in time.I use one of those fold down back support seats in the car its brilliant,i couldn't drive far without it.
Do all you can to avoid getting in this situation, exercise more etc.Believe me, ive had a bad back problem for years now so keep up and active.

    Hello,

If you spend so much time in computing or watching TV you should purchased the good quality and comfy one.It will also make you relax.I also heard this some large sized beanbags from my friend he got from online shop co'z he also spend a lot of time playing computer games, expensive but i think its worth it.
