even tough my new laptop does not have a modem built in can i still receive braodband.
i assumed that there was no point in having a 56k modem on my system if i will be receiving broadband.
    any one confirm this
    thanks

You will need either an ethernet connection or a wifi connection to use broadband. Do you have either of these?

56k modems used an old connector type like your phone (memory is cruel to me but I think they were called RJ-11 connectors. )

EDIT: All coming back to me now.

56k Modems use RJ-11 connectors which are indeed standard telephone jacks, where as Boradband uses RJ-45 connections (slightly thicker than a phone connection.) But if your laptop is resonably new then it was have a Wired network connection and more than likely a wireless connection too.

yeah it is a new dell 1530.
i think it has the above items.
i was just nervous cause someone told me that because it had no modem it would be unable to be used for broadband.
    thanks for the help
