PS3, any technical reason not to have Wii controls?

So is there? The sixaxis already has some degree of motion control.
So is there any reason Sony, or another vendor could make a controller system like the Wii to be used with wii style games?

Lets face it. The wii is very underpowered but it has the great novelty factor of the controller system. Having just got a wii (have a PS3 too) i can see the appeal. So having a similar type controller on the PS3 with its superior graphical /processing technology would make for some very interesting games.

So is there any reason it can not be done?

It doesn't have a pointer, which is the best thing about the wiimote.

In terms of motion sensing, it's actually more accurate than the wiimote and it has a gyro in it to tell its orientation (which the wiimote doesnt), but there's a lack of wii-style games because it's also got the full compliment of "traditional" controls, which just work better, and the price of the console means people aren't buying it for novelty games.

Well on doing a little digging, there was a motion sending wii style system out for the PS2 years ago. And someone is developing something like it for the PS3 / PC i believe.

People may not be buying it for novelty games... but since they have it, they might as well have the option. My wife would not play any PS3 games that i know of. She will however play Wii games with me :D

Im just thinking of something a little more realistic from the PS3 with the novelty of the Wii stlye controller.

Both Sony and Nintendo may have to cough up to keep their controllers , see here ,

    http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2207157/sony-nintendo-controller-patent-suit

Microsoft are exempt from the suit because they dont have motion control features.

Any developement will most likely be on hold ( or held from release ) until this blows over.
