i would have thought that having 1 HD and 2 standard boxes would be just fine.. dont see why would have a problem with that..

You would also have to make sure that each of the boxes are connected to a phoneline as sky want to make sure that all the boxes are in the same house, so you are not getting cheap sky subs for other ppl etc.

Basically the dish for sky+ or HD has 4 outputs

a normal skybox uses 1 of these

    a sky+ or HD uses 2

so therefore you can have various combinations once you don't "go over" 4

    up to 4 normal boxes

    2 sky+ or 2 HD

1 sky+ or HD and 1 or 2 normal skyboxes etc

    so you would be ok

    but you can't have e.g. 1 Sky+ and 3 other normal boxes

    HI there,

Im in the same boat, just got Sky+ today along with multi room, but I thought I could only get one extra sky box, therefore I was going to use the Red Eye thingy to beam the signal to the tv upstairs. obviously this is annoying etc,

So how much extra would I have to pay sky to get Sky+, and 2 normal sky boxes.

my package is €28 + €15 multiroom (one box)

    Thanks

That's not what the "magic eye" does. It sends the remote signals DOWN the RF cable to the Digibox. The Rf cable works quite happily without a "magic eye" (but you won't have remote control of the Digibox).

Each multiroom card will cost you an extra €15 a month. I don't know what Sky charges for extra boxes. It might be cheaper to buy a used one off eBay.

    HI Sam,

Thanks for the reply, my boyfriend has one sky box and then got the magic eye (its not a SKY one) for €60 in Argos, and he can take the remote upstairs and watch sky there. think we're mixing things up!

    thanks!

At that price, you are probably referring to a "videosender".

The cost for an additional box is €69 and your monthly sub would go up by €15 a month.....prob be an install charge of about €45 I'd imagine

Would a magic eye be any good to me, I changed from Chorus to Sky this week and am delighted in everyway with it except Im down one tv as such, I got sky + in living room, another standard sky box in bedroom and thought I could use a video sender to the kitchen but for some reason its not working too good, can anyone recommend anything without telling me to get another sky box?

    thanks

You need to run a cable from the rf2 output of one of the sky boxes you have to your kitchen. A magic eye will then allow you to change the channels on the sky box...must better than use of a video sender and a cheaper option.

thanks Steve, can you tell me what exactly is the difference between, the magic eye and the video sender, know a few people with the video sender and they can change the channels from the tv the signal is being sent to

Being a girl n all :p Im totally confused!

No probs nellie, the difference is quite simple.. a video sender is a device that sends the picture wirelessly to the tv in another room and some come with a device to transmit the remote control functions also to allow changing of the channels.

A magic eye is a device placed on the end of a coax cable ran from the sky box to the second location and this in turn allows you to control the functions of the sky box.

The magic eye alone does not transmit pictures wherever as a wireless sender does.... the coax is a better option where it is easy to run a cable tidy as video senders in my opinion dont offer a very good picture where thick walls are concerned....

ah ha! now I got ya!! Pity that my kitchen and bedroom are at two different ends of the house though! So running a cable would not really suit - might talk nice to my boyfriend and see if he can arrange something!!

    thanks for your quick response!
