Lovely sports shots. Great action and colour.

    Love the lone tree too.

The sky behing the branches of the tree look kinda weird... looks like you lasooed the sky around the tree and darkened it and left the sky behind the tree the same lightness...? I dunno :S

of the sports takes - #2 is the most pleasing to me. With no #3, the crop on the poor divil on the right is obviously rather tight ;o) No #1 i think is ok but wouldn't get ya going if you know what i mean. The tight crop tends to work well on sports shots, as generally you are trying to isolate the action. Careful not to get too tight though.

And as for the tree - i think it is just smashing. Lovely take. Love the water reflection. Love the black and white. But maybe i'm biased - i have been known to stop the car (or nearly crash it) at the sight of a 'striking' lone and majestic tree.

Its probably a tad 'off center' - now it may actually be your desire to move the subject (the tree) off center and break that particular rule - if so, i think you may not have moved it enough and you could perhaps have gone landscape with it (assuming aesthetically nice scene around it).

The black border is nice and black borders will generally set off a nice contrast-y black n white pic. However it might have been nicer if it was even all round - again perhaps this is a stupid rule that you can break - not for me though (perhaps i'm not rebel enough).

    Cheers.

The tree is wonderful. I would like to see it directly in the middle, exactly for the symetricity in both directions. Nice treatment.

Here's a different version with the lassoo thing fixed.

    Also been working on this:

    * Above images may or may not display - I've been having trouble with Deviantart.com where a lot of images show up as the little red X.

I make a point of not posting images of children on the Internet.
I'm sure you have the permission of their parents, in writing, but I still avoid the possible controversy.
With regard to the composition, the action isn't tight enough & the images are too cluttered.

You don't need their permission. There is no law against taking photos. It's just good practice not to post photos with information (who/where) but otherwise, it's perfectly acceptable to post. I think people have become too paranoid.

love the tree one but the bridge one, well maybe it's me but I find the reflection to be 'too clear' and distracting..if that makes sense. A ripple or something would have been nice.

You can legally publish photos of anyone (children included) as long as they are decent.

Naming them and saying where they lived would be wrong.

The second version of the lone tree is much better. The bridge shot is good but I think the black border is taking from the shot, especially as there's dark areas in the shot. Try it without for comparsion.

    OK

I prefer it with a border!
