AIB scam emails

Apologies if this is the wrong forum but I thought it would be worthwhile to warn people about an email that is doing the rounds that links to a fake AIB internet banking login page.

The email is addressed from accounts@aib.ie and as usual says your internet banking account needs urgent attention to comfirm your details. The fake page is very convincing and looks almost identical to the real thing (See screenshots). Obviously if you log in to it you're just handing over your details to some scammers.

Maybe this is old news so mods please delete or lock this if it is.

If people just realised their banks will never email them looking for information these stupid scammers would give up.

That is easy for someone who is savvy to all these shenanigans to say.

I applaud the original poster for taking the time out to warn people of this.
Also, AIB would welcome it if you forwarded that email to them; if you look on their website, they will have a mail address listed for such email scams.

If you fall for this and lose your life savings, will AIB compensate you or will they tell you to get lost as it was your own fault?

I agree but there are always people that don't know about emails like these. If one of my parents got one I know they wouldn't think twice about filling it in, sad but true I suppose.

Good thinking actually, I'll do that.

No they will not compensate you, and I'm afraid rightly so.

They are doing their best to inform people; people just don't read the literature, nor do they listen to the adverts.

You sure? I remember BOI compensated a few people about a year ago.
They didn't have to but it's good press for them to do so.

Having said that, this scam was as widely known back then and maybe the banks feel they have done enough advertising to their customers at this stage.

Had one of these in my inbox this morning from Saturday pointing to a php page on
    http://internetbanking.aib.ie.2.47cx972x.com

I couldn't see anything because I have images blocked. The subject was
URGENT: Your AIB account requires immediate attention
Cheers for the heads up D.T. Jesus

That's the exact one I was talking about rkm.

I knew it was scam straight away today as I read this thread over the weekend. Best to let everyone know like you did. Take no chances. A quick mouseover will usually reveal these things but I can see some being caught.

some banks may compensate you if you fall for phishing but only because of good will, there is no obligation to do so.
