I came across this which is on the Nikon UK website since 16 Jan 08.

"New - How to register for the Nikon UK 2 Year Warranty online"

Of interest to all those newly acquired D3 and D300's out there (as well as my more humble D80)

    http://www.europe-nikon.com/home/en_GB/local/broad/386/1.html

Applies to Digital equipment (digital SLRs, COOLPIX compacts & Coolscan film scanners)

    • Your Nikon equipment is guaranteed against any manufacturing defects for one year from the date of purchase
    • The warranty card is issued only at the time of original purchase; it is non transferable.
    • The warranty card must be presented to the Nikon Service Facility before any repair can be made under warranty.
    • Establishing the original purchase date should be made by the original consumer purchase via the sales slips or other evidence.
    • Damage caused by accident, misuse, do-it-yourself repairs, sand, grit or water is not covered by this warranty, which is only valid at Nikon Service Centre.
    • All mail or transportation costs including insurance are at the expense of the owner. All other claims of any nature are not covered*.
    • Warranty for digital product is only valid in the country or region of purchase.

Cameras distributed by Nikon UK Limited and purchased in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland after September 1st 2007 (and during the duration of the scheme) qualify for a free one year extension to the Nikon Manufacturer's Warranty, if the purchase is registered with Nikon UK Limited within 30 days of purchase.

Any second year warranty claims must be made to Nikon UK Limited or one of its Authorised Repair Centres before the extended warranty expires.

Your statutory rights are not affected.

    **WARNING**
Please be wary of dealers claiming to be able to sell or provide you an international warranty for digital equipment when you are purchasing from overseas, or from importers. THIS IS FALSE . International warranty for these products is unavailable.

Please also see the following FAQ for full terms and conditions of Nikon’s European warranty.

Claiming Your Two Year Warranty To take advantage of the extended warranty you are required to register the product within 30 days of purchase. The camera must also have been purchased from 1st July 2007 and have been distributed by Nikon UK & Republic of Ireland .

For details on how to register your product online please click here. Alternatively you can complete the in-box warranty slip (available from 17th September) or telephone 0800 408 5060 .

This extended warranty will also be available to customers who purchased a camera on or after 1st July 2007 when they register their product.

When making a warranty claim you must provide proof of purchase, European warranty (provided in box) and extended warranty certificate (which will be received after registering within the welcome pack).

As this is a Nikon UK & Republic of Ireland initiative it is only supported by authorised UK & Republic of Ireland repair facilities.

All lenses and accessories will continue to have the advantage of a one year warranty.

In addition you will have the opportunity to purchase an additional year which will allow you to receive a three year warranty. This three year warranty will have the added benefit of covering you for accidental damage and theft for the whole three years of the warranty.

The two and three year warranties are managed on behalf of Nikon by Homeserve.
