Hey over the past few weeks there has been a lot of background noise off my guitar every guitar has it but this is really bad it has gotten worse over the past few weeks . I have an Ibanez GRG170dx with the original pickups . About 2 months ago the screw holding the pickups came loose and it started to fall in and i tightend it and the same level as the bridge pick-up and its been fine since . I had a gig the last night and it was recorded and it sounds so bad i couldnt even watch it . I dont know much about pickups but can anyone suggest some things i can check out ?

    Any advice apriciated Thanks

Excessive noise can come from lots of places - your guitar (bad shielding/grounding), the pickups, cables, your amp, effects units, and even other electrical units plugged into the same power source as your rig.

You say the GRG has it worst, but also that every guitar has it, so it could be coming from more than one place. The best thing to do is narrow it down first - try lots of different guitars through your amp, try your own guitars with different amps, different cables....etc. Just a process of elimination type thing.

well i tried a different ibanez through the pedal and amp so it wasnt them . Also i noticed that along with the back ground noise it was feeding back quite a lot . I have had the guitar for about a year and a half and this only started in the last 2 or 3 weeks and steadily geting worse .

Not too much inside the electic guitar......but the wiring has to be soldered right and also shielded.

I had a similar problem with my Gibson Les Paul.......more expensive guitar, but can have problems too. It was the tiny capacitor connected to the wire. Had to have a new one put in......

Nothing a decent guitar repair man can't handle.......shouldn't cost an arm or a leg either. :)

I was just about to start a thread saying i've found the miracle cure for buzz and static when i saw this. For the last few months my beloved strat has been almost unplayable due to buzz and hum that it would produce. I had heard a couple of years ago about shielding guitars with tinfoil to stop this but never really thought it would be effective. So I spent the last 2 hours putting tin-foil on the inside of my scratch plate on my strat, and i just plugged it, and heard nothing! in a good way! All the buzz was gone, it was truly unbelievable. So i recommend giving that a try.
    Alan.
