Is Joey Barton the biggest tinker going at the minute? He's after getting away with wrestling Shaun Moloney to the ground and producing a save that Shay Given would have been proud of, and to top it all off he tried to dismember Ashleys Youngs legs with what Mr Gray termed a "strong challenge". There's only one word for him, it begins with "K" and ends with "acker".

yes, if there was a team of 11 hated men(hint, please start thread!) in the premiership, he would be captain. him and michael ball, great pillars of society they are.

Smith has become such a poor player. He used to be quite useful at Man Utd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

United made him a terrible player. He wasn't good enough up front for United, so he was shifted back to midfield where he could do a job. Wasn't good enough there either so :)

I think if he gets played as a striker again for a while, he'll get back to his old standards.

    Villa 3-1 Capitulation United

Some comical defending, especially for Carew's second.

Edit: lol, what the hell is Stephen Carr thinking. 4-1 Villa, Carew hat-trick.

It's not that I'm enjoying it, I dunno...I don't like to see managers treated unfairly...Newcastle for the drop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I'm hopeful that Newcastle go down, just cause I hate when owners are stupid towards managers, I think it was totally unfair on big sam.

Either way, Villa look a great team. MON is getting them playing extremely well.

we play well maybe 25% of the time, max

and we only play well against teams who cant defend

I can't understand some of the criticisms of MON. I know he's not the most lively in the transfer market, but how can you argue with the season so far?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

nobody is argueing with MON or the season so far infact we are delighted with it. However Helix is right to an extent we very often dont play well at all but grind out results. We were rubbish for the first hour against liverpool yet drew 2-2, we were not that good against Blackburn but got a late free kick equaliser etc. Villa have a reputation as set ball specialists and are often reliant on this for goals b'cos if Young is kept quiet Villa often struggle to make any chances from open play. But against a team like Newcastle Villa can play the type of football that we are aiming towards.

but who cares as long as the results keep coming.

i havent seen a single villa fan arguing about the end result this season anywhere, ever

there is however plenty of guff for our one dimensional play and chronic lack of creativity from open play, which is deserved

and then theres the transfer market, lively or not isnt the issue, the issue is that we have an insanely small squad and mon KEEPS selling and not buying. the jan window put any hopes we have of europe in serious doubt, and the only way we're realistically going to do it now is if we're very very lucky with injuries and suspensions. this didnt need to be the case, and mon is rightly getting all the guff he deserves

nobody wants to see all the players' hard work go to waste just because the manager is useless in the transfer market

Ugh, people gloss over reality so much.
United have won 18 games this year. 7 of them were 1-0's. Nobodies complaining. Why? Some games you win with style, some games you just win, the important thing is you are winning. If you win no games with style then fine, complain, but if its on and off, it's all you can really ask for.

Also the idea that Villa are beating teams with poor defences, who cares? United do the same thing, infact nearly every United goal this year could probably be put down to poor defending from the opposition side. Nearly all goals result from a defensive mistake, that's football :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,058 ✭✭✭Unearthly

Terrific game between Sunderland and Wigan

    end to end stuff

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,933 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

PHB both myself and Helix said were happy with things: Helix saying not a single Villa fan was coplaining about the end result and i even finished saying as long as te results keep coming. i.e we agree, we dont really care as long as Villa do well but we will answer someone wondering why some have criticised MON.

hell its alost a compliment to say we havent played well much of theime yet are 5th

youd really have to be watching us week in week out to understand

we look like world beaters against poor teams, but stick us up against anything half decent and we look complete dross... yet we usually manage not to lose

the end result is there, or nearly there in terms of the league table. wed just like to see things looking a bit better on the pitch most of the time. something which wont happen unless mon gets the finger out in terms of transfers

    thats all we're getting at

we're massively overperforming in terms of results at the moment, and theres no way thatll continue unless the manager bucks his ideas up in the summer window. we're still in the terrifying position of knowing that 2 or 3 injuries and we have nothing left

i dont think fans of other teams realise quite how shocking our squad is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

Helix I agree 100% and I have posted simalar thoughts in the Villa thread.

I knew we would score today and I was right, great win Newcastle fans might now start realising that Keegan is past it and getting of a good manager like Big Sam to be replaced by a has been was a big big mistake, teams around the bottom start picking up points and Newcastle could go down!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

    Sunderland 2- 0 Wian.

    Des? you around? :)

Joking aside. Have to hand it to Keane, they are winning the games that matter against their rivals at the bottom. Similar table from the top makes bad reading for Liverpool. Think it was the mirror I was readign today that had the table since Rafa joined. We are far adrift in the top 4 playing each other table. Think its 10 points to the next team (Arsenal iirc)

Reid's pass was the definition of the word "vision". Playing that pass straight to a player would be impressive enough but he had to judge how long it'd take Murphy to get to the ball as well. If he hit it to early the pace of the ball would have taken it away from him. Too late and the Wigan player would have had it. Fabulous pass.
