The first time I played with Dathio was in the Fitz EOM game and he pwned me so hard it was one of the poker lessons which spurred me to improve my game (thanks Dave).

Mistakes are few, aggression well measured and well applied. I dont think there is anything that somebody like me is capable of saying that will improve your game.

    keep it up.

Dave I haven’t got much criticism for you but have been very impressed with your game and actually learned a lot from the few times I’ve played with you, although one game that stands out for me is going back over 2yrs ago in the SE 300 game. I only came onto the scene and this was my first big buy in, anyways I made it heads up with you but I think you had a 2-1 chip-lead on me, I asked did you want to do a split but you said lets play on and see how it goes, after a couple of lucky hands I think we were almost even in chips and you then said lets do a split :D – I snapped this deal up as I knew i was way out of my league, also the fact that it was nearly 6k each ;) .
IMO Dave you don’t have many faults in your game and I’m sure if you do you don’t need me to TRY point them out.

I think you should play more and try to make a good living out of the game.

Not much I can suggest. Have played with you on a number of occasions and find you hard to put on a hand and hard to play against. Not hard like the Times Crossword... harder.
The only advice I can give is not to take beats as much to heart as it seems you do. You really play with all your heart it seems, you hate hate to lose which is probably part of why you do so well in general. Focus is your greatest strength I think. Its just hard to see you take an early bath so much to heart.

Other then that, I dont think I can give you any poker tips.

    DeV.

I was thinking the same myself. I don't think I've anything of use to add either, cos I can't think of you ever making any mistakes any time we played at the same table. Your concentration levels, and decision-making because of this, are awesome at the table (I think I may have said something similar about Niall in the past). Of all the other players I've played with on here, only MPT would be as good as you in that regard, imo.

Tom- you're totally right, I take beats far too seriously, and need to learn to have a more philosophical approach to the game. Alot of this is probably to do with taking shots at tournaments which I wasn't really bankrolled for, and the succession of bad beats I seemed to be getting at crucial stages began to get a bit painful!

Bankroll management is probably my biggest flaw, and I have found it difficult to get back on my feet after needlessly blowing a more than healthy bankroll while travelling last year. That said, since July I think I've played 3 live tournaments and 20,000 hands online, so I really need to put in more hours.

Everybody else- thanks a million for the complements, I really appreciate it. Actually it's made me really want to get out and play again soon, which is great because I haven't been feeling all that enthusiastic about poker recently!

    dave you're rubbish.....

But seriously, one of the most impressive tournament performances i've ever witnessed was at the inter county team event in city west, from four tables out you absolutely destroyed it,it was a joy to watch, and were very unlucky in the heads up.
I saw your ept final table a few months back, that was also very entertaining, for different reasons;)

Daithio, there is only one person I have seen run as bad at crucial stages of tournaments as you have (thats Oscar/Bohsman, it really became a sick joke with him at one point), so I can understand you're reaction. I think you are right about being too under pressure because of your BR management.

Oh and your "avoiding-being-inside-straight-sucked-out-in-heads-up" skillz really suck and you need to work on them :p

Id say you're the best tournament player in the country by a long way when you want to be, learning cash games and plo should just have added new dimensions to your game, no reason for you not to clean up if you start playing seriously again.

You back in the country anytime soon?

Yes well I'm alot more comfortable playing very deep stacked now in tournaments as a result of learning cash. I think I may just have been running good at PLO though lol. I've done ok playing it, but on reflection of my play through pokertracker I think I need to study it some more.

I've got a month off in July so aiming to be back in Ireland for most of that, but all you degens will probably be off in Vegas!

I will start playing more often, but the live options just aren't that great here in Sydney, which is a total headmelt. The potential here for an amazing poker scene is massive, but Star City have the only casino licence in New South Wales. It tilts me so much!:mad:

You need to play a lot more.

You learnt a lot about variance playing all those SnG's on betfair but you need to apply that same logic to cash games. It's harder to spot because with SnG's you finish a bad one and move on to the next it's a clean break, and also when you win a SnG it's a great confidence booster. It came to a point (while playing for the WSOP ticket rake race) when you won a SnG you had so much confidence you didn't even register the win, it was just another game played. Likewise when you lost one or two in a row you didn't tilt because you had so many wins under your belt you knew it was just variance. Those things are not so easy to quantify when playing cash and you definitely seem to take beats a little worse in cash. Try to use Sklansky bucks as a method to keep the confidence up. I think the more you play cash you'll naturally adapt to it like you did the SnG's but it's the only thing I can think of aside from getting golf lessons!

I know I'm going to make a real effort to play more hands online from now on. It's just I find it so boring and am constantly aware of other things I'd much rather be doing while playing.

Also I'm going to start playing that weekly tourney in star city with a bit more regularity.

    Tell me more?

Every Wednesday at 6pm, $300 entry. Soft as anything. 3K starting stack, 25 min blinds, but every table has an auto shuffler so the structure isn't terrible at all really.
