Changing GP

I have a GP I used to go to as a child apparently, a very long time ago.

I went once there afew years ago and he was useless, rude and payed no attention to what I was saying, a fine 50€ for him.

So now I dont want to go back, but the new doctor I rang refused to take on any new patients? I am not registered with this other guy by choice and never intend to go back, what the hell is going on here is this not a free market?

How do I change it? Do I need to go to this guy and get my files from 15 years ago?

I think a GP practice will take on a certain amount of patients per GP. Once they've hit that amount, they won't take anyone else on.

When I lived in New Zealand, I had to ring 3 surgeries before I found one who was taking on new patients. When I lived in Glasgow I had to ring 2 surgeries before I could get taken on.

So just keep ringing practices until you find one who has spaces. You should always make sure you're registered with a GP, because you just never know what's around the corner.

I have a friend living in the Mullingar area and all the GPs are over subscribed there because the town has grown so quickly. Maybe there is a similar problem in your area.
