It's different for everyone TBH. You can only try it and see how you go. I found only one type of pill ever suited me, when they took it off the market due to low demand for it none of the rest of them ever suited me so I won't bother outlining the side effects I experienced on it, as you may not find the same when you try it,it might be perfect for you. There's mixed experiences with yasmin among my circle of friends, some it suited others hated it.
Why not try it out for say, 3 months, see how you go, if you dont find it suits you talk to your GP again and see if there's another you can be prescribed.

i was on it for about 6 months and the mood swings were terrible. My friend was also on the same pill and had to get it change after a few months. all pills are different and effect people in different ways. all you can do is try them

Ask your doctor about Yasminelle instead if you are worried. It's like a half dose of Yasmin but is equally effective. I'm on yasminelle at the moment and I have no problems at all, I was on Yasmin before and no problems either. Yasmin and yasminelle stop you retaining water so the risk of putting on weight is extremely small. I was on dianette before and I got every side effect under the sun!

I was on it for 4 months and it made me seriously ill. I had nasuea, vomiting, terrible mood swings and terrible skin. Everyone is different though so you'll never know until you try. It turned out I can't take oestrogen based contraception so it was probably just me!

The good thing with the pill is that if it doesn't agree with you you can stop.

As other posters have said, the pill is different for each individual... I've taken yasmin for the past year, and have suffered no side effects. I've also taken diannete, as it's meant to best for dealing with bad skin, which i sadly did suffer from. Doctor told me at the time, that yasmin was best to change to after using diannete, and had no problems after changing. i've been grand with both and my skin cleared up loads too :)

You're not really going to get any consistent advice here, because the pill will affect each woman differently.

Read the leaflet carefully for a list of possible side-effects.

    Discuss side-effects with your GP.

Finally, if Yasmin isn't working out, then contact your GP with regard to alternatives.

I changed to Marvellon after being on Dianette for far to long (4years) and my skin is better with Marvellon and no side effects whatso ever!!

I switched from Dianette to Yasmin about 6 months ago. No real side effects. The spots that used to plague me before I was on the pill made a half-hearted attempt at coming back but cleared up completely after about 3 months on Yasmin. It'll effect everyone differently but I say give it a go.

Yasmin didnt make me put on weight but it made me very emotional!! I had to change to Mercillon, which my friend said made her put on a few stone!!! But it hasnt had any affect on me.
It really is different for different people.

I take yasmin with no side effects whatsoever. As I understand it, every person has a different reaction to each pill. There's no rule that 'this pill has more side effects than another'. It depends on the person. I had to change pill 3 or 4 times till I found one that suited me. Your doctor should expect this to be the case anyway. You won't be stuck with it if it doesn't suit you.

I was on it for a month. Couldn't handle it whatsoever. From clear complexion to acne like spots on my face. I became quite moody, bloated, got cramps. It just didn't work for me. I know that different peoples bodies deal with differntly, so chances are it may work for you. Consult yourr GP.

i switched to it from microlite as the latter made me feel very sick. I find Yasmin perfect for me, but you'll have to try around to see which one suits you the best

I got very depressed on it but it could have been due to other things, like exam stress.
My skin was AWFUL on it, and scarred to I changed to Dianette which is perfect really for me

As everyone says each pill effects women in different ways

I found that Yasmin exasperated my already low mood the week before my period.

Try and write down now, before starting the pill, what you're usual behaviour is throughout your cycle so that you have it to refer to. I found it very hard to realise that the emotional trouble I was experiencing was due to the pill I was on and not other factors.

I tried both Microlite and Yasmin before I started on Dianette which was the only one I didn't get side effects from. Both of the others gave me terrible mood swings and I was just always weepy. Go back to your doc, and ask him/her to change your pill and see how you go. My GP told me that some ppl literally have to try 5 or 6 different brands before they find one that's right for them. Others can't take the pill at all and have opted for other methods like the coil, it's pretty much trial and error til you find one that suits you.

OP, I'd imagine that you were prescribed Dianette then Yasmin owning to hormonal imbalances/skin problems. As a result of skin problems, I was on Dianette for 3 years, then my doc switched me to Yasmin because Dianette's not something you should stay on forever (apparently, it can mess with your liver after a while). My skin has stayed completely clear since switching to Yasmin.

My weight has also been absolutely fine with Yasmin -- the first month I was a bit emotional, headachy and occasionally nauseous, but since then no problems.

Whatever pill you change to, it may take a couple of months for your body to adapt, but I'm happy on Yasmin now.

Of course, though, your GP must have the final say in this.

I heard that too. Apparently being on the pill for prolonged periods (longer than 5 years) as it can effect your fertility? Has anyone else heard this?

i switched from Microlite to Yasmin 2 years ago and find it much better. Didn't gain any weight(although the boobs got bit fuller, not complaining there!)

I still find i get PMS and cramps though, but my cycle is light and my skin is crystal clear!

Toots85, I don't think any studies have conclusively shown that being on the pill affects fertility. I think what may be true is that when you come off it, your body takes a while to readjust and have 'real' periods again - so it could take a while before conception happens.

Having said that, what about those who become pregnant while taking the pill correctly? I know it's a teeny amount (less than 1%) - but surely that's *some* evidence that female fertility is not adversely affected by the pill?

Also, given that the pill has been around for a few decades now, I think that any serious fertility issues would be obvious by now. It's up to each woman to do the research and decide whether she wants to take it, I suppose.
