Hey all, have a little problem and looking for advice. Not sure if this is PI but sure move it if its not.

Im looking into getting laser surgery done on my eyes and am a bit nervous about the whole thing. I guess i'm looking for view from ppl that have had it done and what they experienced? Also where would be recommended? price isnt an issue, more so looking for the safest and most professional spot that does it in dublin...

Currently 24 and well worried about the long term affects? Anyone had it done for a few years now and had relapse?

    N.

Maybe a testimonial from Irelands most cringe worthy comics wrapped in a granny costume will enlighten you.

Can't advise on a local spot, but I had mine done around 10 years ago, it's been fantastic. I have noticed a deterioration lately, especially at nights with the ol' halo effect on lights, but it was one of the best things I ever had done.

My ex-girlfriend had it done about 15 months ago. She had nothing but good things to say about it - in fact she said it changed her life.

Couldn't work at a computer for a week or two after she had it done and wasn't good with bright light but as soon as that first while was over she raved about it.

I had it done, search boards for Lasik as there are plenty of threads.
I got it done in the blackrock clinic.
Be careful of these places that advertise "from €x per eye" as the price will skyrocket depending on how bad your vision is.. which is crap since it takes the same skill and time no matter how bad your eyesight is (once you are eligible).

    OP,

I got laser surgery in Optical Express last summer. Best thing i ever did. I highly recommend them if you do got ahead and get it done.

Some places will give you a normal eye exam (similar to an exam in standard opticans as if you were getting glasses) before telling you if you are elligible for the surgery, and will give you further tests once you sign up. Optical Express give you all the tests before they tell you if you are elligible. I felt better knowing that i was elligible after all the tests were done, and not have any surprises arise after i had committed myself.

Also, your consultation to find out if you ar elligible is free so its very much a no strings attached situation. I haven't had it long enough to see if there are any long term side effects, but i can tell you that at the moment I have better than 20/20 vision, so at the moment it's after working out very well for me.

Not everybody is suitable for laser surgery, it depends on what exactly the problem with your eyes is. See an optician or opthalmist (or whoever the right person to talk to is :p) and discuss it with them :)

Got it done in March 2007 in Mater Private. Cant speak highly enough of the procedure or of the Mater. Couldnt work at a computer for 1.5 days afterwards but was able to socialise etc within a day or two. Feel free to PM me any specific questions.

Statistically the risks are quite low but its wise to be aware of what can go wrong. Many of the side effects are irreversible.

only the doctor can comment on that. It depends on a number of factors your age, your current rate of sight deterioration etc
