My how times have changed. Reading this thread is really looking into the past!

The DAA are not such a great employer these days. All the perks and benefits for new employees you mentioned in this thread are gone (paid taxis, good pension, good salary etc.). Overtime? Gone. Bank holiday pay? Gone. Shift allowance? Gone.

I can't speak for ASU in T1 only to say that new entrants (if there ever will be again) will be on much less money than the others.

I work in "ASU" in T2 (called passenger services) and in comparisson to the ASU in T1 we are on awful contracts. Basic salary of €26k a year for often 50 hour weeks, all shift work. No shift allowance. Absolutely no overtime. No extra bank holiday pay. Unpaid breaks. A 1% pay rise after a year, if you're lucky. Rosters with holidays worked into it - so you can't choose your time off. Awful hours leaving you absolutely shattered 90% of the time. Unpaid sick leave. No pension until two years into it. No social life even.

A lot of people are fed up and many are actively looking for other work because the pay and conditions are atrocious for the hours and work you do. There are 50 odd ASU from T1 coming over to T2 to work after taking voluntary redundancy payments - well they are in for quite a shock.

Whereas it used to be a career job with good money and prospects it's not anymore. At least, not in T2.

The DAA are becoming a Ryanair type of employer. There is a two-tier system between T2 and T1. T1 staff are on so much better money it's totally unfair that T2 workers get the short end of the stick. Not just ASU but all other employees in T1. I know cleaners in T1 who are earning double what I am. It's incredibly unfair.

It's actually a nice place to work but the DAA will have a serious problem with staff turnover, especially once more jobs start to appear in the economy. Unless the pay is increased to match the tough job we do, they will lose valuable experienced people.

How bad are the conditions now and pay? I'm currently going through the recruitment process for the asu at the moment, if successful I'd be aiming towards a career within the airport police.

i dont have the exact figures to hand but i do know that in general, T2 staff are on far worse terms than T1 staff.

Thing is, T2 is operated under a subsiduary of DAA and thus they get away with it. I know of several people in both terminals, the T1 staff have great conditions whilst the T2 staff are TOLD when to take their holidays, forced to work 12 hour shifts without any sort of over time.

Before I got work in my current department @ DAA I had applied for T2, i am so gratefull now that I didnt get it, the staff turn over rates for T2 are alarmingly high, and i know there was more or less a full intake that did not turn up for their first day

it seems in 2013 they are hiring quite a few for the Airport, bucking the trend

are all the new staff through the agency now or do the DAA still take on staff directly?

seemly they went through Flexsource, the initial interviews done there, and if passed, then onto DAA FOR ANOTHER INTERVIEW,

seems the executive workers are doing the security in T1.. so they must be short staffed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,011 ✭✭✭Vego

And the amount of people who have applied for the jobs as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭maco12

i dont understand why they said in the news that office staff had volunteered to help with security in T1..if many people are applying for jobs there!

Is there any positions left? Flexisource contacted me recently and I had to complete a online application form. I haven't heard back since. Any ideas if they need extra numbers or is it just a case of being kept on file with flexisource for future recruitment? Any info you be great cheers!

I'm going through the re recruitment process at the moment and just finished my group interview.

I realise this topic is dead but if anyone does read this and works there or has recently been hired I'll take any advice you're willing to part with!

Sounds like interesting topic. So are they recruiting at the moment. As i have very good training and backround in a similar role id like to apply.

Don't give them your mobile number or even better give them a false one because they will be constantly texting lengthening your shift or changing them to suit the company. I know all about it I'm currently in t1 and I've had to put up with it. I'm sorry I ever gave them my number I have no excuse now to say I didn't get any text when the duty manager calls me into his office because " I was late " for my shift when in fact they extended it.

Are these jobs run in a zero hour contract manner? I read somewhere that although the vacancies are advertised as permanent the hours are actually part-time (20-30 pw). But they then offer you extra shifts (ad hoc). So in practice do you end up having to work whenever they call you for fear of losing shifts in the future if you refuse?

Also if this is the case do they offer you full-time permanent shifts after you prove yourself or do they just continue to take advantage of staff?

Just applied for this job a few hours ago. Haven't received any automatic email - hope I didn't enter my email address incorrectly. Do you remember if you got an automatic email immediately after applying?

I've just applied for one of these positions and have been invited to a group interview.

If anyone has been through the recruitment process and feels like giving some pointers I'd be grateful! Also any info on shift patterns, what the job is like etc, it would be most appreciated.

I was thinking about applying for this job but I see that the salary is listed as €26,000. Is €26,000 before or after tax? I'd imagine it is before. Does the salary increase yearly? If so, what is it capped at? I would appreciate it if anyone who knows to reply or even PM me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭dunner515

Anyone have any ideas on this?
