Giving Blood

I know there is another thread on this as well but this is a different issue.
I donated Blood last night in Galway and I wasn't encouraged to ever do it again. First of all, I was there for a total of two and a half hours. They need more donation beds, I think there was only 7 beds. In this day and age people do not have the time or the patience to wait that long.
Also I found that they were not very nice or thankful. When I was donating the nurse said in a sharp tone..."are you chewing gum?", I felt like I was at school again. The customer service in generel was poor and there wasn't a word off thanks.
Anyone else have the same experience? I might go again, I just may have picked a bad night but from what I saw I am not surprised why only 5% of the Irish population donate blood

I've given blood in Sandyford a couple of times and always felt very welcome. The staff were always pleasant and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes! Maybe you got them on a bad day ....or things are done a little differently in the Galway branch?

I agree with some of the points of the OP.

Having given blood lots of times, I have often come very close to just walking out of the clinic because the whole process takes so long. On several occasions, I just took the attitude, that I couldn't be arsed taking the time necessary. Wrong attitude I know but thats human nature!

I would disagree about the staff based on my experience. I couldn't ever really fault them as they have always been most pleasant. I even got a txt message from them last time out to thank me for donating.

The donation process should be very much streamlined though, and I know it would make the difference between me going to the clinic or not on lots of occasions when it comes around.

Perhaps some IBTS people lurk in here and might pass the comments back to Mananement.

The only time i've been delayed is when loads of people turn up to donate. Generally I know when I go that it'll take some time and bring some notes or a book with me.

I've always found them so nice - a few times I've gone down to give blood and haven't been able to because of various vaccinations I've had done and they've been nothing but apologetic for the fact I couldn't give blood.

Which reminds me I didn't get to the last clinic - must go give blood this week.

You all have convinced me to go for a second time anyway, will see whats its like in 3-4 months time!
